Thank you nostoneunturned.
Don't no about akhish but I wondered if there is anything we can do, other than taking Levo of course?
What a good question akhish, I hope someone answers.
Normally the antibodies decrease when the medication kicks in. They don't disappear however (not for me anyway)
Can I suggeset you take a look at the website of Dr Alexander Haskell - called Hope for Hashimoto's? He also has a book of the same name, which I rated highly. I have been following his advice - which in summary is to get properly medicated with levo, supplement effectively with Vitamin D etc, and to modify your diet and go gluten free. It's about 1 year now since I got my levo optimised and started this regime, I gave up gluten last November and the last time I had my antibodies tested there was a small decrease for the first time in 3 years. I am not saying it's as a direct result, I can't know this for certain, but I do feel bettter than I've felt for years and am very positive about continuing in this way. Any questions, just get back to me.
....I thought Selenium was meant to help support the immune system and in turn reduce the anti-bodies.
That's one of the supplements suggested in Dr Haskells book. I read it 2 years ago but have only just gone gluten free in the last month due to dizziness.
Hi sewfossy,
Did eating gluten cause your dizziness ? Has your dizziness gone now you are glutenfree ?
I think in the uk they want the antibodies to increase - then you just have a straight forward case of replacement, eventually. From this site, books and peoples experiences that is why if you have a slightly raised tsh it is not treated.
Tsh is treated when it gets to 10. Even if your t3 and t4 is low.
But in the meantime before your hashimoto diagnosis I think diagnosis of obesity, pain killers, constipation, indigestion, depression, cholesterol etc are promoted.
Good Luck with the gluten free eating plan ! Yes I too have the Hashi's book. Been on Selenium since diagnosis in 2005. 3 months on and one month off - or thereabouts ! Hope you soon feel less dizzy - isn't that middle ear ? Undermedicated maybe ?
I have more or less given up gluten (but fall off the wagon for the occasional sausage sandwich). If I eat a lot of gluten I get very dizzy like vertigo.
Anyway after changing my diet, for the first time in years my antibody levels have fallen - in fact they have halved,
I also have upped my Vitamin D with a monthly sunbed. I notice that as I approach the end of the month I feel rough and my hair starts to fall out . People are always picking hairs off my suit but as soon as I have the sunbed that all stops until the next month. So whilst I worry about the sunbeds in terms of skin damage I think it is helping my health overall.
Since going gluten free and taking selenium, my antibodies have reduced. However, i was told that as more of your thyroid gland is destroyed, the antibodies will decrease anyway
The trick is to reduce inflammation and reduce toxicity i feel - i just don't know how to do that; i'm dentalphobic so cannot have my mercury fillings out but i feel that our immune systems wouldn't be attacking us if we hadn't turned toxic eg from nasties in food, from fluoride, mercury, etc.
