I have Hashimoto's Hypothyroid and I am currently taking 75mcg of Levothyroxine and feeling ok. I was diagnosed because I wanted to check my health before trying to conceive. After a year of trying and then a few months of getting my levels to their optimum after diagnosis I have just tested 2-3weeks pregnant on two tests....I have just booked in to see a GP next week, but my own GP is on holiday so I am hoping that I will get good treatment from this one that I do not know!
Any advice would be really appreciated at this point in time - especially regarding vitamins and supplements and foods that will support pregnancy with hypothyroidism....
Thanks
Jo

Hi. Your story sounds a bit like mine! You really should be given an increase in thyroxine straight away (25 mcg increase is usual) as the baby needs it now, and your levels should be monitored throughout your pregnancy and dose adjusted accordingly. If your GP is not aware of this, please ask them to check with an endocrinologist because it is well known.
A lesser known effect of hypothyroidism is that it can produce big babies, so just keep that in mind. If that happens in your case, it doesn't cause any problems (apart from discomfort to you on the way out!!) so is nothing to actually worry about.
Other than that, there's nothing specific to be concerned about other than following usual pregnancy advice and doing what you feel is right.
Ahh thanks for responding. The increase in Levothyroxine was my main concern and I was wondering when I would need to start it as I was wondering just increase my meds straight away...but I thought I would see what others have done. Thank you
My Thyroid was at its optimum when I was pregnant. They will monitor all the way through and you be under a Consultant. I didn't have to change my level of Thyroxine during pregnancy at all. I also just took the vitabiotics pregnancy vitamins. A Consultant was also there during my laboutr
I've had two babies since having my thyroid removed due to cancer 10years ago. Both pregnancies were consultant led and my thyroxine was increased each trimester. Both babies were late and both were 7lb something. They will most likely offer you Alan extra growth scan as well to check baby is not too large. Congratulatioms
