Hello, tuppenny.

The short answer is, yes, it is possible that you can have symptoms of over-medication on 100mcg Thyroxine, if your thyroid is not very under-active or has stopped being underactive. The reality is, though, that doctors VERY rarely give you too much thyroxine - they usually want to give you too little.

So, what I would like to suggest is this:

See if you can get your latest blood test results from your doctor, with the ranges (In brackets after the figures) and put them on here.

In addition, take your pulse and temperature each morning, shortly after you wake up,for the next few days. Keep a note of these and put them on at the same time as you put the blood results. (if you can get them).

In addition, make a note of all the symptoms you are having, such as - rapid heart beat - is it all the time, or just every so often? Are you jittery and nervy? Do you have a very fine tremble when you hold out your hands at arm's length? Do you feel very hot? Do you feel very cold? Are you tired? Do you have pain when you exercise? These are the kind of things that can give a good clue as to whether you are over- or under-dosed. Some symptoms occur with both, some with one or the other. If you suddenly get something odd happen, make a note of it.

Also, details like how long you have been on Levothyroxine, when you were first diagnosed, when you first suspected your thyroid was not working properly. All this information is very useful..

I know it seems there are more questions than answers at the moment, but it will help someone to help you. We have all wondered these kind of things ourselves, and sometimes the answers are surprising.

Look forward to hearing from you.

One reason for your hyper symptoms could be low iron or ferritin. Your serum iron should be well within the range and your ferritin between 70 and 90. If it is lower than this you may find you can't tolerate your thyroid dose without feeling hyper. Once you get your iron sorted you may find that you start to feel much better.

It is important not to take iron supplements unless you know you need them. Too much iron can be as bad as too little.

I hope that helps
