The biggest problem with refrigeration is condensation. Each and every time the pot is opened, it will fill with relatively damp air, which will condense and, over time, tend to cause deterioration of the tablets.

If each and every tablet were individually wrapped in a totally protective film, then it might make sense. But that is not the case.

I have read of some people storing unopened pots in the freezer but have no knowledge of the impact that might have.

Desiccated thyroid has a reasonable life if treated with ordinary care (that is, preferably in a cool, dark, dry cupboard). Do you really need to extend its life?

Useful info , thanks.

I wonder if anyone has experience of storing unopened pots in the fridge or freezer ?

I used to store mine in the fridge, but then the leader of another board said not to. So I stopped. And it sounds weird but I didn't notice if I noticed any difference, if you see what I mean.

I used to take the pot out a few hours before opening it, to avoid the condensation Rod mentions, and then kept it at room temperature. But I've never tried putting them in the freezer...

I am not very surprised!

In Australia they have to keep levothyroxine in the refrigerator in order to ensure the claimed storage life. But it gets very hot there!

If you take care about condensation (as you did), I doubt there is anything particularly wrong in doing so. But I would still be wary about the seal - even on an unopened pot.
