I seem to be the only one to put a picture up,why are you all so shy? lets see some faces lol.
Why so shy?: I seem to be the only one to put a... - Thyroid UK
Why so shy?
If you're hypo, it can be painful to see oneself in the photographic spotlight. The physical changes can be the hardest to bear!
Besides, a photo isn't always meaningful as some people put old photos up from when they were young/er or even photos of someone other than themselves!
What? You don't have an apple stalk coming out of your head?
Are you not a lumpy mushroom Rod..!?
xx
Well I can sometimes be found on the ground, in the woods, with leaves on me...
Did you eat this one? I love the idea of mushroom collecting/cooking/eating but have heard horror stories of people eating the wrong sort and getting kidney failure etc
Funnily enough, I really don't like eating mushrooms - at all! Even if the flavour is acceptable, I hate the texture of most of the few I have tried.
About helvella crispa, Wiki (correctly) says this:
Edibility
Although some guidebooks list this species as edible, the genus is now regarded with suspicion by many. Research has established this species contains methylhydrazine, which can cause severe sporadic intoxications, and may be carcinogenic. It has been reported to cause gastrointestinal symptoms when eaten raw.

I have a photo but I'm sort of disguised - it was last year so not that old
Paranoid about big brother maybe...
Without a doubt there is an element of that.
I wouldn't mind at all if all the genuine thyroid sufferers saw my picture (real me, that is). But I do not wish a) all doctors to be able to identify me; b) the rest of the world to get pictures of me here and link them to other information about me elsewhere, put it all together and make something of it.
Which is also I why,in general, I positively encourage people to use names here that are not real.
Totally agree!
What's wrong, Henry the wasp? Don't you like my goose? She's a lot better looking than I am! lol
Well it is wise to be cautious - my endo once let on that he reads this site... xx
This is what I thought Clare, if we want to be able to be completely honest on here to gain the best help, there will always be the fear of someone we know (especially from the medical profession) reading. Not the best way to build a good rapport when considering that many of us have an axe to grind with our gp's lol x
Ohhhhh, is THAT why some endos don't like me!
Lol Lyn My endo didn't actually say he reads on here but he did ask me whether I was going to write a blog about him prescribing me Armour on TUK, so I'm guessing he does xxx
I'm the one on the left...! x
Ok,some good points and sorry all, point taken.
My view is that it is very good to air this issue every so often. There are several different ideas/feelings.
No apology needed!
Rod
But, Henry, is that really you? You look like a young Burt Lancaster, all sultry and brooding. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........ I'm not surprised you want to show yourself!
Greygoose, yes it was really me.I am so sorry,i have changed my pic now.I am sorry as this is all new to me and i just didnt put my brain in gear.
Oh please! Don't apologise. I didn't meant to imply you'd done anything wrong. It was a nice photo. I've just got a warped sense of humour, that's all. lol Sorry too.
Hugs, Grey
And i thought you were paying me a compliment lol. I suppose from what i read i am lucky to be diagnosed before signs start to show,so i will have all that to come? Hypo and Hyper run in my family big time my dad, elder sisters, and i think my mum may have had it and thats why i got checked,i was ignorant putting changes in my family down to getting older.I too also have a sense of humour so i did find it funny.Thank you for taking the time to reply,be safe,be well and keep your sense of humour going,it keeps us young and happy.
I was also paying you a compliment.
No, you don't necessarily have all that to come. You are young so if you manage to get your hormones optimised without too much delay then there's no reason why the physical degredation should continue. (A little bird tells me that you could possibly take that the wrong way but it was meant the right way! lol) It's when people go for years and years undiagnosed and untreated that they lose their looks - the black bags develope under the eyes, the face puffs up, the neck disappears under rolls of fat, the eyebrows diminish, the little red veins break in the cheeks, the skin developes a greyish tinge, and the hair thins considerably. Correct treatment should avoid all that and you will stay beautiful for ever! lol Just learn as much as you can about your disease so that doctors can't fob you off with old wives tales and excuses for their ignorance and laziness.
Hugs, Grey
So glad to hear you've changed the picture - I was getting really worried about my eyesight - trying to figure out whether you really did have green hair.
Lol great reply Sue-F. xx
can't take any more distress !!!! I have enough to deal with without being identified by the healthcare.
Tut's just wayyy prettier than me! (and it's a good way of showing off my own work!)
I did have my pic on here, but makes no difference really one way or another as I am still unwell and fighting the thyroid battle...And the recent pics just show how unwell I have become and that's hard to adjust to when you have looked a certain way all your life. At the end of the day its not a dating site but a site for unwell folk trying their hardest to get better!
I understand your view point, I too look different due to my illnesses. However, it's nice to put a face to a name and as I'm a happily married woman, I'm certainly not using this as a dating site! Totally understand your wish not to upload a photo, but for me, seeing my picture gives me the determination to regain my health someway somehow - not found the answer to that yet, but I live in hope lol. Hugs xx
