Have you had a look on the main TUK site? Here is a link to the info on testing:

I used Genova for my adrenal saliva test and found them to be good :) I think Blue Horizons are also popular too. More info on the main site. xx

Hi My Endo always says the only reliable test for adrenals is 24 hour collection, cortisol at midnight and blood test at 9 am. This would need to be under a doc because of the cortisol I always have mine with TDL which is the Lab for blue horizon, but you would need the cortisol prescribed., also not sure if possible through the post etc.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi Jackie, is this a 24 hr saliva or urinary test. Also, is your endo NHS. The reason I ask this as the endo I went to see gave me a synacthen test which turned out normal however, years earlier I did a saliva test that showed my adrenals were extremely fatigued - reading by a nutritionist and later did a 24 hour urninary test with Dr P which showed slight hypo but mainly adrenal problem. Would like to get something done NHS so that in the event of me having another medical problem I would at least have the NHS results that would be taken notice of unlike those that are done privately. What is the name of the 24 hour collection?

Thnx Samfalulu

Hi No it is a 24 hour urine test, similar to the Pituitary test in so much as that is also a 24 hour urine collection. She is a private Endo, but I understand, I may be wrong also available NHS, a consultant. However, as I think i said because of the cortisone, needs to be under a doctor for the script. She always says the other test is useless, she is very good and particular about tests. Eg I had a problem with my PTH, she said I needed very precise tests, I had to instruct 2 GP`s as it was all new to them! Sorry I do not know the name, I had it done several times and is I know, well known, ie Lab did not ask, what is it? I am sure you should be able to get it NHS as usually much the same, only a few bloods better privately. Also ,of course, until recently NHS Endo, so I guess how she knew about it. I had one when I first saw her. Then she likes to get the thyroid right first ( most do for safety, strong drug) As first one low, I then had a second when thyroid stable.

If you have other medical problems especially , you should always be under an Endo. Even with a private Endo, if self funding, you can just pay consultation fees and the rest done through GP if self funding, just ask ask, anyway drugs always are, unless something the GP will not prescribe, not "on the list" If you found your Endo good, quite likely she also does private work, her secretary would tell you.Private Endo blood tests or any consultant`s are recognised just the same as any NHS consultant. Any way they can ask the GP to do them, free then! Private docs totally different in every way and usually work out more expensive.

Best wishes,

Jackie
