Thanks to all who gave me help on my last question. Has anyone got problems with weak flaking nails, is there a remedy.

Not that I have come across - the only thing that seems to make my nails stronger and less brittle is to be optimally medicated. You could try eating squares of jelly - my mum always said that this was good for nails, whether it is or whether that's an old wives tale is anyone's guess.

Thanks Maggie, I will try anything, sometimes they are ok, depends on how many times a day they are in water, I need someone to do my housework for me and then my nails might look decent, fat chance of that happening.

I have been taking Collagen capsules for about one year now and they really do help nails to grow better.

Low B12 can cause weak flakey nails. Do you get ridging with them too? If you haven't already might be worth having a blood test to check you B12 level. The Pernicious Anemia Society have useful info on this if you want to check this out further. You can also join their forum that is on the same site as thyroid uk -just click on Communities and they should bring a list up.

Mine were incredibly flaky, they went ropight downers short as they could go without cutting into my finger. All my fingers were agny, eventually when I was looking for cotton gloves so that I could cream them up when I was in bed, I spoke to one of the girls in John Lewis who said her mother had fixed hers with Nail Envy Sensitive and Peeling by OPI and she also rubbed almond oil into her fingertips. I splashed out and bought the nail envy, not really expecting anything to happen, and used that and whatever kind of of oil I could find (not olive!) because I couldn't get almond oil and they are now in the best on diction they have been in for a long time although I still keep them short.I am also taking 5000mgc sublingual methyl B12 so that could be helping. I came within the range but only just and the low end of the range is way too low. So it could be that too. The jelly cube suggestion bought back memories, I was always stealing cubes of jelly when I was a little girl.

Thanks Liz, will definitely try the almond oil and the nail envy, hopefully there will be some improvement.

Hi Tober, I second Liz's suggestion with the almond oil - I don't have almond oil exactly but I do have a cream that contains it specially for hands, cuticles and nails. I was given it as a Christmas present - Secret Santa at work, funnily enough, lol, but I'm not sure you may be able to get it as a standalone item in the UK. It's called Miss Manicure Moisture-Rich Hand Creme. Anything with almond oil helps, from my own personal experience.

Good luck!! xx

May I mention the best product on the market that really works, It is called "Nailtiques" and is only available on line. I have never ever had hard strong nails and I have tried everything, this stuff is the bees knees. Forget Sally Hanson and Malvala they are all rubbish. If you want your nails protected while they are growing then this is the stuff.

Haven't tried Nailtiques - will look out for it though - but you are right about the other two brands they are totally useless. The OPI was the first one I have had that was any good, I bought it even though I was really doubtful if it would work having tried the useless ones that did seem to be the same sort of thing.
