This may seem dim, but I am completely confused.
I now know that my ill health all my life was caused by my thyroid. All the signs and symptoms were there as a young child. At the age of 51, I had a total thyroidectomy due to cancer. Ten years on I am still not well. I was wondering if I had Hashimoto's disease, and if that was the case, could I still have it, even though I don't have a thyroid anymore?
What replacement therapy are you taking? Assuming you are on t3 and t4 with good levels of free t3 and free t4 and a suppressed tsh?
In theory the hashimotos goes away once the thyroid is destroyed....

Thank you Galathea, I am on T3, as I didn't convert T4 to T3, and have suppressed TSH.
I thought that might be the case, but wanted to ask on the forum, just in case.

How much t3 are you taking because you might need more. Now I am on 70 t3 and 50 t4. I was on t3 only but something was missing so the dr and I decided to try adding some t4 to see how I got on. Its early days yet only a fortnight. My tsh was 0.03 and the dr was quite happy with that.

That's interesting Joanna, I am on 60mcg T3, and still feeling shattered, temperature doesn't rise much over 35C any time of the day. So maybe I need more of something, not sure that I will get any more T3 or T4 from my G.P. though.
It sounds like you are taking quite a lot, just goes to show how different everybody is. My friend who had thyroidectomy takes just 100 mcg of Levo' and is slim fit and healthy.

Would they consider doing the two antibody tests? Sometimes the thyroid attack will continue to other tissue beyond the thyroid but it seems doubtful that would occur since yours was removed entirely. But an antibody test might confirm or deny that in your case.
