What dose are you taking?

For the first two weeks when I started on levo (only 25ug -- am now on 50ug) my emotions and body were all over the place. A bit of anxiety, a bit of feeling hot then cold, tired then wired. It settled down, though and I do feel much better than I did before the levo.

Sorry, I put my 'answer' in the wrong place. I'm actually ok on 50ug and have just started on B12 injections. So, my situation isn't the issue here -- rather, it's Maggie76 who needs responses from people.

I have deleted the post which I gave to Cinnamon and pasted it here.

You are on the starting dose and it can take a little while to adjust to the medication. Your GP will be doing another blood test in about 4/6 weeks and should increase.

Always get a copy of your blood tests, particularly the thyroid and make sure you have the ranges. We are entitled to copies When you have a query you can post your latest results. Your GP should aim for a TSH 1 or below and not keep you within 'normal' range as many do.

Also make sure you have had a Vit B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate as the first two in particular are usually low with hypo. Post the results too.

When you reply to a particular comment you have to press the blue Reply to this otherwise the person isn't notified and you may wonder why there was no response.

This is quite a classic response in someone who either has low iron or low cortisol levels. Please ask your GP for the test that Shaws recommends and post them on this forum so that we can advise you.

If you suspect low iron it is important to get it checked before supplementing because too much iron when you don't need it can be dangerous.

I had a similar experience when my doctor raised my dose from 25 to 50mg, but I soon settled back to normal after a couple of weeks.

You haven't said what dose you are starting on so if it is 50 mcgs. you could halve the tablet and take 25 instead for a week or so and then move up to 50. If it's only 25, you could take it every other day to start and then every day in a week or two. Thyroxine has a half-life of about two weeks so any increase or decrease won't be fully felt until that time has elapsed.
