I have been on here only a day, and already feel better knowing there are other people out there with similar experiences!
One thing i have learnt today is not to be embarrassed by the condition, but most of all talking about it is possibly one of the most helpful 'therapies' that there is. Its good to know we can support each other!

yes, I agree 100% . We are carrying a useful message by understanding our condition and explaining it to people, which in turn keeps us in charge of our condition. In my humble opinion
Having had IBS for 10 years, numerous tests and different medications, the thing I have found MOST helpful is four sessions of Hypnotherapy (on a one-to-one basis as opposed to Group Therapy). Also my doctor prescribed a medication new to me, which is Alverine Citrate, which seems to help. As anyone with IBS knows, worry and stress can make it much worse, and I was at the stage of worrying all the time about having a flare-up of symptoms, and the more you worry about it the more likely it is to happen - it just becomes a vicious circle! Hypnotherapy can help you learn to relax and stop focusing on your stomach all the time, and the therapist I saw gave me a relaxation CD - I have played some of the tracks on this whilst my stomach is lurching and churning, and by the end it has completely calmed down. Also helps with sleeping. There doesn't seem to be a cure for IBS
but learning the best way to manage it can be a great help. Good luck to you!
Hi I agree with your comments as talking to others with the same condition helps us to learn about things that may help rather than trying to fight it alone. The more we share the more we learn and cope with this condition. I agree too that the more we worry about it the worse it gets, certainly so in my case.
I am also New to this site ,and have found it very helpful . As when you having a bad time of things you think you are the only one. Then you read things on the site and then realize that you are not the only person that has ibs. I have a good family but they do not understand what you are going through. Hubby thinks I use it as a excuse not to do things at times, when he won't to go for a long walk, our a bike ride. As I have ibs-d sorry I do not wont a long walk.
