I find that my case of IBS is more severe after binge drinking. I'ld like to know if alcohol intake is a major cause of IBS

Unfortunately caffeine and alcohol are aggressive to the gut and can cause problems for those of us with IBS :-(

The simple answer is yes I used to go out drinking four nights a week in my twenties and every time I would have D for a week after. Into my thirties I only went out once a month and had two drinks and the result was the same. I had to give up drinking, caffeine and smoking as they all had adverse effects. It's really individual choice if your willing to put up with the effects it's obviously up to you, my husband still has a drink at the weekend after working all week but pays the price whereas I wasn't willing to and have been teetotal for five years

Yes, definitely. my sister had bleeding diarrhea from drinking red wine to excess.

There is an article here about IBS and drinking hypnofix.co.uk/?p=117 this explains some of my findings and experience with wine beer and lager. I hope it gives you some more answers and also a tips on what may cause problems and what really to avoid.

As above, the simple answer is "yes". And especially after binge drinking I would imagine. Why not try to cut down and see if your symptoms improve. Or cut it out all together for a bit then gradually re-introduce it. Though that's quite tough, especially if you enjoy a drink. I stick to a couple of glasses of wine or a pint of lager these days, as I feel rubbish if I drink any more than that. Just find out what works for you, but all the evidence suggests that alcolhol is a biggy where IBS is concerned.
