Has anyone had any experience of the impact of IVF drugs on ibs?

I'm due to start IVF this month and my ibs is already grumbling away and I'm worried that I'm going to be in a mess the time I really could do without it. I'm not really anxious about the IVF, So hopefully this will help!

does your gyn know you have IBS?

I told my consultant and the nurses at IVF clinic, they didn't seem that interested though. I think as long as my BMI doesn't drop below 18 and I wasn't in a state where I couldn't eat they weren't bothered!

So I guess its just a case of see what happens. I know some side effects can be similar to.ibs symptoms. However often in practice we see alsorts, so I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this and what happened?

What exactly do they give you when having IVF? I have to take high doses of progesterone for another health problem and my IBS has gotten worse since starting them :(

Good luck conceiving. I'm assuming you've seen a gynea and that you've had a lap to investigate any gynea related problems as a lot of gynea issues can present as IBS. xx

Hey missteal, thanks ;) I was on.progesterone only injections some years ago and they made me very nauseous and sickly for a good few months too. I lost quite a bit of weight too but eventually it settled but it took ages. I think its all the hormones you normally have but much higher doses to encourage multiply eggs nit just one.I'm anticipating the worst. As if IVF / infertility isn't hard enough without blooming rubbish guts!! Anyhow got to try ;) x

I have found that my IBS can be related to my hormone levels- I'm always worse the week before I have a period. It may be that the hormones that you have to take have a similar reaction to you. However, as ever, its a personal reaction.
