Do you experience worsening IBS symptoms/flares during the spring time?

Do seasonal allergies trigger your IBS?

I just moved to a state with high pollen and I think my bowels are feeling it

I’m convinced there is a link. As a kid I suffered from hay fever, dust etc I thought I’d “grown out of it”. A dietitian suggested it may manifest differently in adulthood. Look on line for low histamine foods, it is a growing body of knowledge. I also take an over the counter anti histamine (this wasn’t from any advice just self help/hope).

Yes, I think there's a link somewhere. I have to keep Histamines low normally and this makes me feel a lot better and helps my IBS but lately, during Spring, I'm finding my old symptoms are as before I found that Histamines were a problem. I think there's a connection and I have to work harder at keeping Histamines low. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day and exercise such as walking helps me. It's as if the Histamines get flushed out with water and walking 10 miles.

This makes sense. My understanding is that IBS is due to mast cell activation in many cases. Aggravated mast cells will release histamine and the effects will be felt body-wide. And histamine then causes even more mast cell activation/degranulation (release of histamine and many other substances).

Yes! Allergies add to my anxiety and IBS.

I'm not sure - but I do know that I struggle with antihistamines for really bad hayfever. I'm currently battling through a hideous IBS flare up caused by the desloratadine I've been swapped over to (from Fexofenadine), and I can't tolerate it. There's obviously a link between histamine and gut issues. It's miserable!
