As well as IBS I have type 2 diabetes so avoid sugar. Am I right in thinking that some types of artificial sweeteners can aggravate IBS and if so which types do you recommend.
Thanks

Don't use any that end in -ol, e.g. sorbitol, manitol.
HI
I AVOID ALL ARTIFICAL SWEETNERS AS I SUSPECT ALL BAD FOR IBS D SUFFERERS.
Sorbitol my worst.
gff
I'm also T2 and although I don't have diagnosed IBS I do have reactions to some foods/drinks. However, I don't avoid sugar per se, as a diabetic its all carbs (inc sugar) that you need to watch and I read somewhere (maybe on this site) that some people with IBS have reactions to some carbs. It might be worth watching your carb intake (I keep mine to around 150g a day) and see if that helps.
Agree with Rosie though, any sweeteners ending in -ol will more than likely give you a dreadful tummy problem if you have too much. If I can I substitute sugar in any recipes with Truvia which is a Stevia based sweetener and that works for me.
All artificial sweeteners are bad they contain asserting which started life as rat poison and they are all equivilent to drinking pesticides.surprisinvly it only takes a week or so for your taste buds to alter so drinks don't taste bad without out sugar I urge you to google sweetness and aspertine and see just the damage they aspertine and see what it is building up and damage to cells in later life
Is Stevia considered less harmful than the rest, I hate unsweetened tea and don't want to go back to taking sugar.
am interested too?
