Time frame for taking Yogurt or Fermented foods.

It looks like stress and some foods like Coleslaw could delay healing of IBS; however when it comes to gut microbes how long can one take Yogurt or Fermented foods to compensate for Probiotic supplements? I’m concerned about taking probiotics long term, some people say the safest method is choosing the type with only one strain, but I’m generally concerned about them.

My Doctor says it is good to vary pro biotic to get a variety. He suggested 1 month take then 1 month rest. I have tried yakult as it is gluten free (I am a celiac) and Alflorex is recommended by many, as it is made specifically with IBS in mind.
