Well you know me ! only on here when I am in a pickle !! am boy I am in that pickle.!
Cut a long story short have had slow transit bowel all my life but since last August off the scale with impaction after impaction ,trips to A &E and shed loads of movicol ( was going to say something else then !)
Anyway for nearly a year now n o life at all but the gastro I am seeing wants me to continue with the Movicol. I know its trial and error but I find it seems to work on a industrious level every 6-7 days where I cant leave the house for several days and takes several further l days for my stomach to recover that I have to stop it for a while then restart again and so we go through the same hellish cycle again.
I am at my wits end with this and would appreciate any ideas.
Drink loads of water have tried lactulose ( in fact used for years ) but since this nightmare with movicol will not work anymore . To be fair Movicol is the only thing that works but the side effects is killing me and my dignity !

Ask your doctor if you can try linaclotide(constella). I have severe narrowing of the colon due to diverticular disease, insusseption, and slow motility. It's only avaiable in UK as 290mcg which I find too harsh so I empty the powder and split it into four sections and take just a quarter, about 72mcg. It's the only thing that works for me now. It can cause some diarrea so you have to get the dose right for you
Sorry to here that, have you tried psyllium husk powder from health food store? I tried a tsp and was on loo 3 times over next few hours which was more than I went on Movicol. Movicol also made me very bloated but i was only taking 1 sachet a day instead of 2 as my C was mild. I switched to magnesium in the end... you could also try that?
When your thiamine (B1) levels are low your digestion can slow down and may lead to constipation. Anti-thiamine factors are enzymes (thiaminases) in foods such as tea, coffee, raw fish and shellfish and chemical compounds such as sulfites or tannins can deplete or destroy thiamine. Search on "Hiding in Plain Sight - Modern Thiamine Deficiency" and "SIBO Thiamine". Magnesium is needed to activate thiamine so a deficiency could impede activation. A thiamine supplement in the form of TTFD and the form of magnesium threonate can pass through the blood brain barrier to reach the brain and vagus nerve to enhance control of the digestive system. When using a separate B vitamin use a B-Complex with it, they work better together. Always consult your medical professional before using any supplement
I understand as I'm on Linzess. I bloat terribly with it and with eating. It took a week for anything to start happening. By the end of the second week, I couldn't stay off the "loo" (American here) as I had severe diarrhea. Warnings said to stop taking it immediately and I did. Since it was the only Rx/supplement that has worked, I now take it when then constipation has built the baby tummy. (I'm petite so a backed up colon and intestine looks like a softball. I take one Linzess and clear out some but I'm noticing not enough. I'm going to up the days to try either two days in a row or two with a day off between. I'll try one method starting tomorrow.
I haven't heard of Moicol before your post. I'll read up on it. I take Magnesium Glycinate daily. I have hypothyroidism and take Levothyroxine. That medication has thiamine along with my Magnesium having some thiamine. Thanks Pte82 for your information on those.
Have you tried Oxy-klenz available from Amazon. Has Magnesium, beet fibre, FOS, vit C, cider vinegar, and biofalvenoids. Vegan and Kosher. It worked well, but sometimes needs adjustment. I found 2 tabs a day might be a bit much so I space them out. Does warn that the Magnesium can cause mild stomach upsets
