Does anyone feel they are constantly in a flare up with IBS d ? I cannot do anything in the mornings because basically on the loo. I then have days when it starts again late afternoon / evening. Its becoming more & more obvious that I am going to have to give up any alcohol. I had half a glass of champagne the other night for a family celebration & within minutes stomach cramps & diarrhoea & not the first time this has happened. Thankfully I was at home & able to disappear upstairs. I am so fed up with it all.

Yes, do understand, my attacks used to be mostly afternoons had to eat a brunch no breakfast or lunch if I was going out somewhere. Agree fizzy or sparkling drinks are a no no. But I find a glass of rose wine tends to calm my tum

Many people with IBS find any alcohol absolute poison for their guts.

Maybe stopping drinking any alcohol at all might help you?

I am okay with vodka in small amounts -fine. I mix it with honey and (strangely) usually have that with a cup of china tea on the side, no milk. Just one of my little quirks! :D

But any other drink and I pay for it next morning. At the beginning I soon found out I couldn't tolerate any wine or champagne. I actually bought some champagne because I thought a glass a day might do me good. No, I was much worse on that, and had to quickly give what was left to a friend.

I used to love a beer too and Guinness, and daren't go near that now.

I have never had an all-out flare up that lasted at its worst more than 2 days or so, but I've definitely had weeks of loose-ish bowel movements, with some low belly discomfort like wind needed to come out, yet when it did things were not much better, and slight distension in lower abdomen, plus a feeling of exhaustion and lower back ache

But then that would disappear...for days or even weeks, and I'd be pretty normal-ish again for any indeterminate length of time. But sometimes I'd get two or three normal days then back to loose stools again, but only once a day.

sorry to hear you are going through this.

I feel much the same as you. My flare seems to have lasted a few years. In desperation I decided to try amitriptyline, 10 mg. It took me a while to get used to it.

One of the side effects is constipation, so I have to take Dulcoease, a stool softener, for this. Sometimes amitriptyline does not seem to work, but on balance , my life seems much better on it than it was before.

It might be worth a try and seeing your GP for a prescription

My ibs doesn’t react until the offending food wheat/alcohol hits my bowel - usually 2 days after eating it. (Then all hell breaks loose for an hour until I am completely empty).

I wonder if it comes out so soon after you drink it is it really your bowel that’s irritable?

If you always get the same reaction to wine though you need to give it up. 😕

I can still drink cider, Pimms and Fireball!

Good luck 😘

Yes IBS is horrible. I am mainly worse in the morning so avoid appointments until after lunch.

It may not have been the champagne. It could be the stress or anxiety of going to the party or something you ate earlier that day.

When you next have a day or two at home when you are relaxed and near your own toilet why not try a small amount and see what happens.

IBS has a mind of it's own. one day something can set it off another you are ok.

I hate it too!

I'm fed up aswell, sometimes can't go out because rushing to the loo then come out then rush back in. Even the thought of going shopping starts it off. Trouble is you stay in doors to often you then have trouble going out incase you need the loo. I'm going to see family by train in may and I'm terrified now which is making me ill. So trying to find something to eat while I'm away will be a worry. If I get there okay I will have to come back. So I do feel for you.
