New to Forum, but not to IBS

Hi all, I was diagnosed with IBS some 30 years ago, but think I had it a long time before that. I used to have flare ups, but now I have symptoms most days and not having stomach discomfort takes me by surprise.Had lots of tests, blood and stools, nothing found. But GP thought upper right quadrant pain was gallstones, so I had ultrasound and more bloods, but nothing found. I have tried to tell GP that I think it is IBS, but they say it can't be, but more tests and still nothing.

I have backaches, nausea, bloating and alternate between constipation and diarrhea. Oh what a curse we have had bestowed on us!

I am glad I have joined as feeling like I am not alone and we can support each other.

Welcome 😊

The symptoms you describe certainly sound like IBS to me, I'm no doctor but I've had these symptoms for years and even before I knew I had IBS. The back ache and pain is common when I have a flare up. I went to doctors on several occasions at first, stool tests, blood tests and always clear. I don't bother with doctors so much nowerdays as I seem to get nowhere. I've learned to accept what's happening and it doesn't scare me like it used to. I deal with each flare as it comes along and all the time, trying to work out what's best for me as we're all different. I've picked up a good few tips on here, some good advise and tried different approaches myself. We're learning all the time. We accept that life is never normal and we get used to it, enjoy it as best we can. That's all we can do. I've learned that trying to fight it makes me worse and the anxiety gets worse, so I go along with it and enjoy the good days. Good Luck.

Could your mixture of constipation and diarrhoea actually be constipation with liquid food passing around impacted stool known as overflow diarrhoea?

If so, have you tried slowly increasing fibre in your diet?
