Immodium

I’m going for a meal out at the weekend and panicking about eating something that will give me diarrhoea. Do those of you with IBS D take Immodium before you go out as a preventative or when you come home?

Bueus noches😁I am out at the weekend for a birthday celebration meal too. So for me I eat carefully during the day and take an antispasmodic(Mebeverine) before I go out to keep my tum quiet. As I know the quality and menu of the restaurant I am going too I don't take Immodium. But that's just for me. Hope you have a good meal out 🤞

I just don't go for meals out, it's not worth the hassle and stress, worrying about what I'm eating. It's imperative for me that I prepare my own foods, you never know what your eating when you eat out, or what goes on behind the scenes. If you have to go, then try to stick to bland foods and as natural as possible, avoid processed.

Having anticipatory thoughts is normal, but if you can tell those to be quiet and that you are safe, your body will have a chance to do the right thing. Can you not eat what has given you diarrhea in the past? I personally have only taken Immodium if a flare has started

I have IBS and have found sometimes that something I haven’t had a problem with in the past can for no reason cause a problem. I’m not having a good week and so yes I am probably panicking a little. I have been to this restaurant before and will eat what I had last time which didn’t cause me a problem. I would still like to know the answer to my question though.

Hi,I wouldn't take imodium if you don't have diarrhoea as this could have an adverse effect on the bowel . I only take it if my motions are loose

I wouldn’t take them before you go out for your meal but I would take some Imodium with me just in case.

I hope you enjoy your meal without any problems x

I generally take them as a preventative measure . 2 capsules about 1-2 hours before going out . Usually works quite well for me . Will1234

I often just take one immodium instant before going for a meal and that seems to settle my bowels enough not to have to worry too much. I will always check the menu online before I go and, if I have been to the restaurant before, will have the same thing again if it hasn't caused me problems.

I take 1 or 2 tablets about an before if I’m not sure what I will be offered to eat ( or if I don’t know the menu and can’t predict if there will be something suitable.) For me it helps me relax and worry far less about having an urgent need to go to the loo. Being relaxed calms my stomach and anxiety so all this means I enjoy a night out far more, than if I don’t take anything. Hope this is a help, enjoy your evening x
