Hi everyone. I’ve had IBS for 50 odd years on and off but this latest attack began in July and is still ongoing. Worst one I’ve had and lasting the longest. As well as stomach trouble it’s in my back too. Feeling sick too and lost my appetite. Lost over 3 stone but thank goodness stopped losing now. My daughters realised what was happening and come every day to cook me small meals. Doctors done blood tests, liver , kidney and ovaries tests and had stool test and been examined. Nothing thank goodness. I am now waiting for a CT Scan. Feeling so weak and down. Never affected me like this before. Doc put me on Co Codamal and Nefopam for pain which of course gave me constipation then movical powders to make me go which turned to diarrhoea followed by loperamide to conquer that. I think two many meds although needed at the time have caused more stomach troubles. Haven’t been out for weeks and don’t know what I would do without my wonderful daughters. Always been independent before this. Has anyone been through a longer and more painful flare. My doc keeps saying they are sure it’s my IBS but I’m so worried it’s something else. Sorry for the long rant and sending hugs and care to you all xxx
ongoing IBS.: Hi everyone. I’ve had IBS for 5... - IBS Network
ongoing IBS.
Hi yes I have, I have had IBS for over 30 years but in the middle of lockdown it started playing up terribly and lasted over 18 months, I also had a heart scare in middle of it, I wondered if I had gotten a mild dose of Covid that set it off, when mine started there were no Covid tests out there. I lost 1 1/2 stone I was right off my food, they did a calprotectin test and my levels were 480 and the should be about 50 so that showed I had some kind of. Infection going on in my colon, have you had a colonoscopy? Because taking the prep for mine seemed to help clear out what was going on.
same thing happened to me, I also lost 2 stone in 2 months, lack of appetite and being sick. Had colonoscopy, ct scan, proctogram which found I had severe narrowing of colon and intussusception on the sigmoid colon( colon telescopes into itseflf causing pain and constipation) I take linoclotide every morning to make me 'go' , waiting to see coloretal surgeon 5 months now. Co-codamol will just make constipation worse, avoid it if you can
I am going through the same thing. I have IBSD and its been on going and lasting longer everything i get a flare. My Dr keeps says its just the IBS. Let me know how you make out!
Seeing my Doctor tomorrow and scan Friday 3 November. I’ll let you know how I go on. Hope we all start to feel better soon. They say Just IBS ! I wouldn’t wish it on anyone .
Hi. I have had both D and C, and lots of bloated pains for several years, colonoscopy and endoscopy revealed nothing wrong. Doctors meds no longer worked. One of them claimed I will need stronger and stronger meds as long as I live. I got scared about the long term side effects of these drugs, so I did my own search for healthier, natural cure. I had a huge significant improvements with probiotics. The strong/ fresh/ live kind in the form of kefir, yogurt, kombucha. Capsule/ dehydrated probiotics often don't work. You can read up the link between microbiome and gut health. If you decide to go down this route, know that there is a detox reaction (where the good bacteria kills off the bad ones, causing these bad ones to release toxins into your body as they die-off, making you feel sick for a day or so). Hence it is advisable to start with small amounts. I remember after that first kefir die-off, I felt normal for the first time in years and was able to lie on my stomach again. It did not cure me completely but I'm grateful to be functioning again and stop visiting doctors on a weekly basis. Later on, vitamin D3 helps too. Again the link between vitamin D and IBS relief has been shown in scientific studies. Everyone's IBS could have got worse during covid due to staying indoors and lack of sunshine to make vitD. I hope you feel better soon.
Hi Gloden I see you have had many replies, and that you have a scan 3rd November that should put your mind at rest. Getting diarrhea after Movical is not usual. Do you eat a lot of dairy products, cheese, cream and butter that causes diarrhea? I recommend ""Low FODMAP diet"by Dr S Shepherd and Dr P Gibson which worked for two years for me. Have you got a gall-bladder? Without that you can get Mal Absorbtion of Bile MAB. For constipation I recommend any of the live yogurts - two teaspoons a day can make a big diference to constipation. I suggest you try the yogurts without the Movical and see if that eases the constipation and take a loperamide after eating lunch and dinner. Be careful of becoming anemia through not eating enough. Good luck
