change in bowel movements

Hi I was wondering if anyone has gone from a few years of IBS/D to going more to the normal/constipated side. This seems to have happened in short space of time. After having diarrhoea for so long with certain trigger foods making it worse ( keeping a food diary) and trying different diets. Had all sorts of tests done about three years ago all came back normal. A lot of the time I couldn’t even leave the house as I was going between five and seven times a day. However since this alien to me change in my bowel movements I now seem to be urinating more and waking up a couple of times in the night needing to pee. Could it possibly be because I’m not having diarrhoea now. I am also at the peri menopause stage so it could also be that 🤷‍♀️. Any thoughts would be appreciated thank you.

Hi

Sorry, I was the other way around – mostly constipated or normal and then changing to diarrhoea. I feel that hormones do affect us in ways we do not expect. It seems as if your IBS is improving, so that sounds like a good thing and could be a relief!

Over the years I have had to get up more often in the night for a pee and I put it down to the aging process. I am 74 now and I have to get up about four times a night. My friends are similar.

Hi thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear that you have suffered too and sounds like you still do. I’m so glad that I’m getting a break from the constant diarrhoea. Thank you once again 🙏😌

I switched from IBS-D in my 30s and 40s to IBS-C in my late 40s/50s. Possibly the digestive system slows down with the ageing process - not sure. The extra urination might be if you are more constipated, putting pressure on your bladder. Equally it could be peri. However, best to speak to a GP about any changes in symptoms. Gradually increasing fibre intake should help with the constipation.
