peri menopausal

I am peri menopausal and have had ibs-c for years. My upper abdomen bloating and pain is a lot worse since menopause and I’ve been taking one sachet laxido for 12 months now. It worked a treat to start with but now not so much, and I’m more gassy and bloated than ever. I’ve had ultrasound, endoscopy & CT scan but nothing found. GP isn’t much help, I’m wondering wether to come off laxido as I’ve read it can cause bloating and gas. Can anyone relate to this?

I have read (and experienced when I had bad IBS-C) that the body becomes accustomed to laxative means. See if you can get referred to a gynae and talk to him/her to see if hormone disruptions can make gastro issues worse as a separate issue and if so, if he/her has any options re hormone treatments. I want to stress I'm not an expert in diet nor medically trained, just speaking from my experience and just a thought. Hope you find solutions.

My IBS got worse in my 40s. If you'd like some dietary advice regarding alternatives to taking Laxido for IBS-C and becoming more tolerant to different foods, I can post it here if you want?

My GP took me off Laxido for my IBS.c because it causes bloating. I saw a gastroenterologist and he sent me for a test to see how my muscles worked in my bowel andcl was told i had weak pelvic floor muscles also told to use a squat stool . He also put me on linacoltide which only can be prescribed by a gastro. This has been a game changer for me I now have a BM everyday .

Be firm with your doctor and request a referral to see a gastroenterologist - unfortunately some doctors have a tendency to dismiss some health concerns, at the very least your doctor should send you for blood tests.

Hi 👋 I just read your message and I’m in the exact same position as you.Since my periods started to stop and start this past year I have noticed my constipation has become worse than it used to be. I have read somewhere the gut slows down in menopause and mine’s already slow! I get a lot of bloating and discomfort but if I take Laxido for more than 3 days I get bad cramping. So I’m just trying to drink loads of warm water and walk as much as I can as I know this helps. I have had every camera test possible and nothing has shown up.My gastroenterologist just advised me to eat prunes every day and discharged me 🙈.So basically I have been left to live with my symptoms and try find my own solutions.Sadly my gp is totally unhelpful too so I understand how you feel.xx
