I am "visiting" from the Afib forum because I found that the primary trigger for my Afib was trapped gas and bloating, associated with constipation and eating the wrong foods.
I found that I have celiac disease and have made adjustments to diet and eliminated constipation, among other changes, and have been free of Afib for many months.
I am writing to get anyone's take on a phenomenon that happened while I was still trying to deal with the gas buildup and bloating. I was taking Miralax, pepcid, Gas-x and chugging Pepto-Bismol but still having poor results with digestion and stools.
At one point, I had an infection in the throat and had an antibiotic for 10 days. During that time, my digestion abruptly became more or less perfect: bowel movements every day with no laxative, well formed stools; it was amazing! It lasted about a month before I was back to the old issues.
Several months later, I developed another infection and took another Amoxicillin-type anti-biotic for a week. The same thing happened! These antibiotics seemed to be the perfect cure for my indigestion. Again, it lasted several weeks beyond the period of taking the antibiotic.
I ran this wonderful news by my cardiologist, primary care provider and gastroenterologist, but no one was interested or seemed to think that was a clue to the root cause of my digestive issues.
I can't help believing that it suggested that I was suffering with a gut infection or inflammation issue which had responded to the antibiotic. (I had gotten a negative result from the saliva test for gut infection.)
I am doing well now, with the help of a few gas pills and eating right, but I wish someone could explain the significance of the curative power of the antibiotics. They were not prescribed for digestive problems but were extremely effective.
Has anyone had experience with antibiotics for digestive problems? What was the ailment being treated?
Thanks,
Fibnum
