I have always been IBSC dominant so what happened over the last 6 months? It started with excessive wind (rear end) very painful and very embarrassing. Over last 2 months iv had what seems like one tummy bug after another. No one else has it. It's IBSD and so painful and sudden I dare not go out. My son is doing all my shopping stool test shows nothing wrong? I am knocked out and starting to lose weight. I stopped the pro biotic but no difference. What's going on ???.h

Hi

It's quite common for IBS C to change to IBS D and the smelly wind etc is also a symptom. Your symptoms sound all too familiar to me. I wouldn't stop the probiotic if I were you. I remember last year I had a bout of what your having when I ran out of my probiotics. Its awful, and as soon as I started them again, the symptoms eased over a day or so. Perhaps try a different probiotic, mine has Inulin in it. Try to ease your anxiety which I feel from your posting, anxiety is really a huge culprit.

Sorry to hear you are going through this. Edgar77.

IBS - it’s such a confusing condition. I had IBSC for over 30 years and then it changed to IBSD, which I have now had for 15 years. Stress plays a major part I think.

Imodium helped me cope for a while. I found the tablets were too strong and constipated me again, so the GP prescribed Imodium syrup which you can take in lower doses.

I can absolutely empathise Edgar77, although Im the opposite. Ive had IBSD for decades and over the last 2 years its moved to mixed/IBSC. Had all the tests, GP said its really common for changes to occur as we get older-great! I think one of the main issues, is that over time we become expert in our own IBS and when this happens, we have no frame of ref and can feel like we're starting all over again. Well, I do. I know nothing about constipation and the worry of the changing symptoms is not helping at all. I agree with Jackie1612, stress doesn't help and the irony of me stressing over my IBS could be causing my IBS to be worse isn't lost on me! Make sure to maintain a good fluid intake at the very least and maybe start with a month of a food/symptom diary? Ive gone back to that to find out if there are any obvious triggers-lets hope we can find our own solution!

I think probotics can cause excessive wind and then diarrhoea sometimes thats why i dont take them. Maybe still in your system ?

I suspect SIBO (small intestine bacteria overgrowth) So thought the pro biotic would help. Also had scans for BAM (Bile acid malabsorbtion) this usually causes IBSD and at the time I was IBSC? So could not take meds for it. I can't speak to gastroenterologist till November. I was just border line but maybe could try the meds now as things have changed. Sometimes you are dambed if you do and dambed if you don't. As a celiac on fodmap diet I think my diet is very limited and I'm still afraid to experiment with something different. So also suspect my gut microbio may be in poor condition. All speculation until I can speak to gastroenterologist.
