"Basic Plus Food Intolerance Test". Opinions, feedback please?

Has anyone tried this test? I would be interested to hear if so.

It costs £69 with free postage

I am skeptical about it. My scam lights are flashing. Maybe not an outright scam, but maybe feeding into "people who don't feel well being willing to try all sorts of things" (which are probably not that useful for them.)

and the cost is not high in itself, but times that by a million people and that's a lot of money ain't it?

Someone recommended it to me. I would almost 100% not bother with it. But if by any chance anyone has tried it and got valid results that would be interesting to know.

Hi,

Why would you want to pay for something you can figure out for free by yourself?

You start with the fodmap, gluten free and lactose free foods. Strip your diet back to basics and build from there, one food at a time until you have discovered what foods trigger your problems. Then don't eat them. Simplistic but the basics which just costs your time. If you can't do it yourself, get a good dietitian involved.

I know. I personally am not too interested in doing the test at all. I did the Fodmap trial in 2020 and the reintroduction phase, which for me is a "work in progress" . I do seem to have found which foods suit me better and which don't, so far.

But because it was recommended by a family member I think I just wanted some feedback to show them about it as I think they may be considering doing it themselves.

I was just interested to see if anyone had tried this test and what they think of it

Step away. Food intolerance tests have no scientific basis. Official guidance here:

Yesm the Fodmap method is what I found to be useful to a great extent. Not a complete problem solver, but definitely helpful.

A nutritionist recommended this. I realise now she was making more money out of it. I found it hard to see a Doc during g lock down a d was so ill. So payed a fortune a d did the test. I reacted to over 30 foods!! and was ready gluten free as I am a celiac. So I was put on a starvation diet. She also sold me lots of different vitamins and minerals. I lost 2 and half stone before my Doc interviewed. He said she could have killed me and has been struck off. When I asked for a second test they were reluctant. My Doc said every time you do the test the results are different depending ding on what you have been eating. Also when cutting out foods it should be more than 8 at a time. Nutritionist are trained to advise on a healthy diet. They are NOT trained to treat the sick. ie celiac, diabetes IBS ect ect for that you need a dietician.

I have spent many pounds on various 'food intolerant therapists' which all proved to be a waste of time and money.We are all looking for help and support so it is all too easy to be seduced.

Hi Luisa 22 I would have thought that you would have to have the food in your system to show up on the test and as you are still introducing foods it does seem unnecessary

Great feedback from everyone. And I read today that we can actually show as "intolerant" on these tests to foods that are regularly eaten, even when they don't cause symptoms. So I can just imagine how dangerous that could be if people started cutting out foods that their body was in fact happy with!

Hi Luisa, a bit late I think, seem to be running a bit behind today.Just thought I would say I know by your posts on here what an intelligent person you are, but this post may make others aware of these tests.

My GP once told me when we had a discussion about this, that if only it was that simple he would prescribe a blood test for all, he then smiled and said don't waste your money.

Wise words I think.
