Gastroenterologist Consultation

After waiting since last autumn I've finally spoken to a gastroenterology consultant. This was an a phone appointment with my local hospital - something I've not done before, but it worked really well, much better than I expected.

The conclusion, for the time being, is that my IBSd is definitely related to stress of various sorts, and not food related. This explains why it has flared up in very hot weather when I've not felt anxious or stressed!

He's referring me for a colonoscopy and anal manometry to check there's no inflammation in my gut, and to find out why I'm getting the anal leakage. I'm also going to have more blood tests, another FIT test & another Calprotectin test.

He suggested that I try foam anal plugs, but wouldn't refer me to a continence clinic, and I forgot to ask him to ask the GP to prescribe them (I would have done if I'd known how much they cost!)

All in all, a useful phone call!
