New to IBS and it’s wrath.

Hello all,

I’ve been struggling for about three weeks now actually on and off all year. About three years ago I had something similar bloating , lower back pain and overall just uncomfortableness and had all the test run even a CT with contrast all clear . This time it’s different I have lots of stool issues and not so much of bloat but just mild cramping throughout the lower abdominal. Do any of you deal with lower abdomen pain that wraps around to the sides like the flank area? Also back pain obviously lower but how about in the middle or upper? And the stools, definitely definitely have changed pretty much floating this and Color is usually OK But they look fatty and greasy. OK lastly at the beginning of this year I actually had a couple times where I had to go instantly like I couldn’t make it, one time I accidentally went in my pants. No pun intended but this crap sucks.

I agree with This Crap SUCKS! 😢

Definitely let your doctor know about those changes with your stools because it might be good to get your pancreas and gall bladder checked. Fats in your diet aren't digesting properly by the sound of it.

You could also check out Bile Acid Malabsorption, just in case your symptoms fit with that? But try to talk with your doc. if you can.

It seems once we're diagnosed with IBS we're left very much on our own, but it's always best to get new symptoms checked, because if something else is going on, and it gets fixed, it can help the IBS a lot. Sometimes what is thought to be IBS can be something else going on which IS fixable.

Good morning, thank you so much for the response. I went to my GP on Tuesday he told me to take Metamucil and a probiotic. I do not have a gallbladder it was removed about 10 years ago. But I’m with you I will contact my Gastro doctor if it doesn’t clear up soon. Trying to stay positive but if it is IBS, it just plays havoc on your mental health. Like I said I had similar stuff happen about three years ago and I went through all the testing even the CT stuff and they cleared me.

I’m not having any upper abdominal pain, just lower heaviness and aches that wraps around to the sides and of course the lower back pain with some mid back ache from time to time. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yes, you're right, IBS does mess with mental health. I felt so down today. Tried to cheer myself up with this and that, but just woke with that dark feeling and a growling gut. I get lower back pain too. I got the back pain years before the IBS, and not sure what the connection is, but am not ruling that out. They seem to play up together now.

If it's really low abdomen where you get the sensations, that doesn't sound like kidneys, but don't rely on what I say because I'm not a doctor. I get discomfort going on lower abdo. too, and that can affect my lower back. Like you, nothing upper abdomen.

Yea the back pain off and on which moves into my buttocks. Just my BM’s are concerning me is all I can’t seem to get a grip on them to form up and get to a normal color. Hard to tell when wiping if it’s fat or mucus. Smh

All I know is I have good days and bad days. I think I will call Gastro next week see if I can get in to make sure to rule out anything serious🤞🏼🤞🏼.

Management of IBS generally starts with changing your diet.Refer to the Monash university fodmap guide and see if that helps.

Hi. With regards to your abdominal discomfort I have recently found peppermint to be a big help along with keeping myself well hydrated. I take one capsule a day when things start to get uncomfortable but I drink at least one 500ml bottle of peppermint cordial mixed with water everyday. I believe it eases the cramps you're experiencing in your bowel. If you haven't tried it yet I would agree the fodmap diet although a tough diet to stick too will definitely help you understand your triggers and help you avoid that certain type of food/drink.

I've been living with ibs symptoms for around 6 years now because of being coeliac so the diet helped me to learn I had a gluten intolerance.

Hope this helps if I can help any more I will

Yes, you need to go back to your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, as you would need to get your pancreas checked, as a problem there could be the cause of fats not digesting and therefore giving rise to your floating and greasy stools, and especially as you have back pain.

I would go back to your gp it’s a year since the last episodes this might be something different. I have gallstones and can get pain etc similar to you and floating fatty stools.

Been actually since 2019 when this first happened and then it went away after about five months. It’s just this time it’s a little different but similar. This morning‘s stool was better I’m on my third day of probiotic.

Hi FortySixn2, I see above that you had your gallbladder out 10 years ago. Sometimes problems can occur later on when the gallbladder is removed. Perhaps have a chat with your doctor. They can give you bile sequestrants to help you with it, if that is the case. See link below:

So about three years after the gallbladder removal I was having some weird pains under my ribs on the right side. Dr. thought might be sprinter of the ODI. But I often wondered if it had something to do with my gallbladder even with what’s going on now I wonder🤔. When I see him again I will ask him for sure. Thank you for the advice.

I have a similar problem where I am completely and I mean totally constipated. I can’tn have a BM with out taking GoLyTLY. I had to go to the emergency room three times in the last two weeks because of zero bowel movement. The X-rays and CAT scan show normal. I take every laxative under the sun, drink gallons of water, eat fiber etc and nothing works. I’ve been to see the gastrointestinal doctors and they tell me nothing because they know nothing. I am getting desperately and depressed. Any help?!
