Hi All,I hope your all doing ok,probably not if your reading this. I don’t come on here to often because I feel your all suffering in your own way.

I just have a few questions,if your up for answering me. In the last couple of weeks I’ve suffered with diarrhoea,I’ve been to the hospital twice,as my GP I can’t even get to speak to. Yesterday at the hospital they said they were going to do a colonoscopy within the next two weeks,I’m not to pleased about that,as the last one I had a few years back was hell. But putting that aside for the moment, can anyone suggest any foods I could eat to bind me a bit.I have been reading about the BRAT diet, but there’s not much there I like. Can anyone suggest a decent soup, that won’t make it any worse. Just picking your brains from anyone who’s been in my position.

I’ve been unwell like this on and off for about a month now,it’s not that I’m not Hungary,it’s just I can’t hold nothing in,hence I’m loosing weight. That’s just the basics,I’m also suffering Badly with pain,to which the hospital said they can’t help. So any advice from you lovely people that know what I’m going through would be extremely helpful.

I have IBS d too. The "binding" foods that suit me, might or might not suit you. But this is what I eat when I'm going through a rough time: Hard boiled eggs, plain white fish (Haddock, Plaice, Cod etc) steamed or baked (I don't eat meat, but if you do, also you could try skinless chicken cooked the same way)....white rice, toasted white bread (I like ciabatta as it has a bit more flavour), peeled boiled potatoes, white pasta. You could try some veggies but I would say small portions. What suits me mostly are green beans, spinach, and sometimes a few lettuce leaves. Only about 2 or 3. But those wouldn't suit everyone.

Any veg that you find out works for you will be ok.

I cook my veg, just steam it for about 10-15 minutes. Except lettuce.

I am usually OK with peeled grapes, if you have the patience to do that. The black and red ones peel better. If you have fructose intolerance those won't work though. I can luckily eat butter. If you like yogurt, greek yogurt might be OK for you.

I can usually manage some plain madeira or sponge cake too without upsets. Plain crackers and biscuits are OK for me. But sourdough crackers don't work for me anyway.

Sometimes even those foods don't work for me. As at the moment. I had hard boiled eggs, white rice and a few green beans last night, which usually work a treat but didn't this time. I guess that's to be expected as IBS is so unpredictable at times.

My advice would be to also take a vitamin-mineral tablet A-Z, and possibly a B complex too, because you won't be getting enough nutrition from a binding diet

Sorry to hear that. White jasmine rice with some form of meat protein (if not veg/vegan) just gets absorbed in your small intestine, so no residue for your colon. This helps to give your colon a rest. It might also help to cut or reduce the diarrhea cycle. If things settle after that maybe try adding in some cooked carrot.
