Hi

Please could anyone give me an idea how you cope with IBS, it has been bad for a while but I have heard it is bearable with a certain diet, but I cannot seem to get it right.

I would appreciate any help on this matter.

Thankyou.

Before trying dietary measures, I would try Alflorex probiotic, which has been scientifically studied for IBS. Many people's IBS can be due to a gut bacterial imbalance, which Alflorex helps to adjust. It doesn't work for everyone but is worth a try. This may make you more tolerant to different foods. Having a varied diet is really important for your health and for your IBS. After that you could try the FODMAP elimination and reintroduction diet - speak to your GP since you'll need a dietitian referral. However, do try Alflorex first since you may need to eliminate less foods after trialling it.

Hi

Thank you so much for the advice I certainly will try Alflorex and see how it goes, being new to all this it is hit and miss but hoping to get it stabilised and yes I will ask to speak to a dietitician a good way to go. Really good advice so thanks once again.

Hi, this is interesting post today as I have just ordered some Alflorex myself. After 20yrs of trying almost everything I thought what have I got to lose? I have tried probiotics before but not this one as it seems the one to try. My IBS has been all over the place these past couple of months, changing from my usual D to sometimes C then I get lots of cramps. We seem to take one medication to relieve the side affects of another. So I am hopeing to try to balance out my gut bacteria. Just one question there seems to be 2 types of Alflorex the original and now a new version with calcium in. I was not sure so I went for the original. Perhaps you would be kind enough to offer your thoughts on this.

Thank you Polyboo

Hi

I am going to order it myself so pleased I saw you note, I am like you good and bad so hopefully this will work. I will get the ordinary and see how it goes, I haven't taken anything yet since being diagnosed but its getting no better.

I hope it works for you.

Hi, I didn't know that you could get the original Alflorex. I order mine from the Precision Biotics website and the Alflorex on there now seems to be the one with calcium. It shouldn't matter whether it is with or without calcium, since they both contain the same strain of bacteria which is the important bit. I did have a to and fro with Precision Biotics about why they felt the need to add calcium to the product, since most people get calcium through their diet, or they supplement separately with calcium if they need to. I have been taking Alflorex for a while and I would have started on the one without calcium.

Hi, I agree with you, why always the need to change things. I think perhaps the one without calcium is old stock, looked at Precision Bioticas and bought from Amazon. Look forward to giving this a try.

I have never even heard of bioticas, its funny but I have pro-biotic yoghurt everyday is it something like that. Anyway, good luck and I will see how it goes with Alflorex. Its knowing the best things to do not enough information given about it, so its a minefield.

I think they meant Precision Biotics (the supplier of Alflorex).

Hi - Thanks for your reply, did you find the Alflorex any good, I am going to get it but need more time to get used to what is going on, its a problem for sure.

Its the diet thing I am not used to - not being able to eat anything . Like I say I am new to all this, so good luck with yours hope it settles.

I suffer from IBS-C with visceral hypersensitivity (IBS pain). After the first week of Alflorex my pain disappeared. I still have to be careful about what I eat though, since some foods can still give me pain. However, I am now eating a far much wider range of foods. Before Alflorex I had pain no matter what I ate.

Hi, I was able to buy the ordinary Alflorex from Amazon. Just waiting now for it to arrive and give it a try.
