Hi everyone, after a blood test, stool and urine test, and a full abdominal, pelvic and bladder scan I was told I had IBS. Still navigating my IBS diagnosing which is typically IBS-C just lately I have had more IBS-D symptoms with some nausea and pain in my tailbone. I’m reading about colon and rectal cancers and freaking myself out. Does anyone else have pressure in their tailbones during flare ups?
I have increased my exercise and may have simply caused myself an injury but typical me I’m panicking again and making my symptoms 1000 times worse!

Alternating between D and C is quite common. And I know, personally at least, my tail bone can indeed get sore.
Recognizing the role anxiety plays in all this is an important learning. Now, you simply have to come up with ways to reduce that anxiety. Easy to say, I know ... ;^)
One thing that should make you feel better is that IBS diagnoses are usually done by process of elimination. So, you can feel pretty certain that it's not all those other horrible things they were looking for and that you're worried about. Yup, it's just good ol' IBS.
That's not to say that IBS can't be pretty horrible in its own right. This group is a good place to share your feelings (as you've done) and get some comfort in that. But it's also a good place to read about things that might help. Everyone's different, so it might involve some experimentation to find exactly what works for you - whether diet, exercise, meditation, meds, supplements, therapy, whatever.
After my test results I felt like I was just left to discover a lot about my diagnosis by myself so having this community to lean on is amazing and indeed it brings great comfort to know you’re not alone in what you’re feeling!
Yes I have also had tailbone pain too. Ha d many tests that show nothing significant , My Doc has said that IBS really can cause back issues , "you'd be surprized " were his words. IBS causes so many different symptoms , it is hard to know if it is the IBS , or something else that you have to get checked out . I guess we all learn as we go along with this. I know that I now know what is normal for me, and what seems different, having had this for about 20 Looong years !! Good luck . Thank you for reaching out
Hi Kellylou, I don't know if we are on the same page with this, but I get a really bad pain. I mean it is one of the worst....in my "tailbone" area, or anus too. In my case I was told by my doctor some time ago that it is "proctalgia fugax". And that it is nothing to worry about.
I get it randomly, can go weeks without it, and isn't always related to a flare up, but can be. Mine is a muscle spasm basically.
It is a really horrid pain, usually peaks to unbearable within 5 minutes or so, then eases slowly off and is gone in max. 20 minutes. But it's nasty. It can wake me out of sleep, can happen when I am relaxed, or during the day, when walking, any time. But when it's gone, it's gone and doesn't come back for ages usually.
and Kellylou1712 , I was about to suggest it might be the same thing. It can make you feel sick. My husband also gets it and he alerted me to its name. It usually comes on at night, but I have had it during the day.
He doesn’t have IBS and I have never had an official diagnosis but I do have constipation issues and have to keep on top of things - which is why I’m here.
I find a hot water bottle on the area can help. I also have a theory - which I have made up - that it is almost like there is a stool trapped against the inner muscle, so sometimes if I can manage to pass a small stool (and it’s always small) it helps me, but often nothing comes.
The Pudendal nerve is the problematic problem. I suffer immensely. My Dr. says there’s little to be done about that nerve. It causes fecal incontinence, too. I find Dicyclomine and amitriptoline are very helpful. The Amitriptoline causes constipation so I use a lot of Miralax or it’s substitute.
After almost 8 years of daily acute pain in the same area i just couldnt go on with this pain. I changed surgery and one of the gps got it into his head that i had some serious syndrome which could paralyse me. I was promptly sent for an MRI scan. This showed at last that the base of my spine & tailbone were compressed. Nothing has been done about it and ive never been given any aids, medication, physiotherapy, exercises, etc for it either. Most of all im pleased as id majorily doubted myself as i was ignored and wasnt believed about the pain for years. Now im relegated to my bed switching sides to lay on due to the pain. I hope you find the concrete reason why you have this pain. All the best 😍
