I definitely tried Ondansetran. Even at half dose, it completely locked my bowels, and had to go to hospital to have impaction manually removed. I use over the counter Meclizine (Dramamine nondrowsy) for nausea and dizziness, cramps. Works very well with few side effects. I get it on Amazon cheap -- $5.00 for 100 pills.
Ondansetron is a drug that has been around for over 30 years and is used to treat nausea and vomiting. However, it is also well-known to slow down bowel activity, constipation is one of its side effects. Because of this, it has been tested in clinical trials in people with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea, and it seems to be better than a placebo for reducing stool frequency, improving stool consistency, and reducing faecal urgency (the need to dash to the toilet). It does not seem to have much effect on abdominal pain though. It is safe to take. The main side effect is constipation.
The response to the drug is variable and depends how quickly it is broken down by the body, which is genetically determined.
Remember what works for one person may not work for another, IBS is very individual
Yes I have it for nausea and it works great for me. I have IBS D also. I understand this drug is also used for chemo patients.
