Researchers at the University of Gothenburg have detected a connection between Brachyspira, a genus of bacteria in the intestines, and IBS — especially the form that causes diarrhea. Although the discovery needs confirmation in larger studies, there is hope that it might lead to new remedies for many people with irritable bowel syndrome. (2020)

More fascinating stuff here, but what is the origin of Brachispyra, where does it come from? Foods, the environment? It is pathogenic and has clearly found a way to protect itself in a similar way to slime mould/plaque build up sometimes seen on surfaces.
Sounds interesting. I hope this research helps us all in the future.
If this bacteria is hidden in the gut wall then I suppose that is why it does not show up on a colonoscopy. This is a little ray of hope. Thank you to the scientists and patients who have helped with this study.
I have been taking hey nutrition probiotic complex for six months which has helped my stomach immensely so it will be interesting to follow this research.
