Interferential electrical Stimulation

Hi ,

I’m getting really frustrated with the constipation that I have with IBS & despite taking 3 Bisacodyl & 4 Prucalopride daily it’s not getting any better .

I’m waiting for a slow transit scan on the NHS but I think this is going to take a very long time to get an appointment date & I’m wondering how much longer my bowel is going to keep going ?

Has anyone tried interferential electrical stimulation , it says on the articles I’ve read online that it increases peristalsis and I was interested to know if anyone has had any success with it & where you can get treatment?

Thanks in advance

hi there, I use a tens machine on my abdomen when the pain is severe. It seems to help the colon ,especially with gas. I bought one just to see if it helped and I wouldn't be without it now. It only cost £30 on amazon, apparently you can pay much more but they all do the same thing. Maybe it's worth a try

Thank for that , I have a little tens machine , but I’d not thought of trying it . I’ll get it charged up & give it a go .

Do you put the electrodes on the painful parts of your stomach ?

It may help with the gas pain but I’m not sure it’s going to be strong enough to get peristalsis going !

I think the machines for that are different . There is information online but it’s difficult to see where you can find advice or treatment centres for show you how to do it .

Hence asking the group

Most of the pain is usually trapped gas especially if you have slow transit like myself. It's up to you, give it a try or not

I’ve had a try tonight & I think it will certainly help with the trapped wind discomfort , it has already taken the edge off & it’s a good distraction too .Thanks for the tip

You're welcome. I'm using mine at the moment for trapped wind. It does help and can distract from the pain.

I use one it does help a bit but I don’t no if it’s because it takes your mind off the other pain .
