Periods and IBS
Hi,
I have the same problem. My IBS D becomes worse during my periods.I dont really have a solution I'm afraid.I just take preventative does of loperamide in the morning, use heat patches for the pain and ginger tea for the nausea.
It's quite common for IBS to be worse during your period. Mine was worse during ovulation too. And I won't even mention the menopause. I guess it's a hormonal thing!
Hi, I went through similar issues every month and used to spend days stuck on the sofa with a hot water bottle and taking Buscopan which didn't really help that much. I put up with it for years and it turned out after being rushed into hospital last year with Sepsis, that I had a large cyst on one ovary and chronic inflammation of my fallopian tubes. That was the cause of the pain, not the IBS, although this is quite rare. I had to have a hysterectomy and although I still have IBS the pain has stopped. I'd suggest asking your doctor about getting some help with your heavy periods, it may help. And I always found the BRAT diet really helpful during flare ups (bananas, rice, apple sauce, dry toast and yogurt), hope you feel better soon 👍
