The latest newbie!

Hi everyone 👋

The NHS site brought me here as a link at the end of some info about meds I’ve just been prescribed 🙂

Brand new to IBS and learning new things about the condition, how it effects me, what my triggers are and how to manage it as best I can.

Learnt yesterday that a previously non-triggering food (i.e. that if had last week!) is now a trigger food. Had the most awful pain in my stomach I’ve ever, ever experienced. I couldn’t even stand up!

So, yep. Learning as I go. Here to listen, learn and understand more about this condition - which I don’t think is going to be as easy to manage as I’d naively hoped!

Thanks for reading 🙏

It’s a long process but you will learn because it’s better than the pain, look at fibre in your diet there are two types soluble and insoluble, soluble fibre soaks up the water in your colon while insoluble does not but both are very important in IBS depending on what type of IBS you are C orD the Bristol stool chart will help you with that, look it up on google. look at the Bristol stool chart and remember it normally is showing what you ate three days before. Learning about fibre you will find what makes diarrhoea or constipation worse, for example an apple is only soluble if you peel it, the skin is insoluble. I can’t tolerate alcohol the first to go many years ago was larger then wine now pretty much all of it.

I also can’t tolerate tap water even if it’s been boiled due to fluoride, my dietitian told me it’s common for people with IBS to struggle with tap water, where I live in Essex the tap water has a high content of fluoride in it. I use bottled water but it took a while to find one that suited me as some bottled waters are just tap water you have to make sure it’s spring water then find a spring water you can tolerate, it all depends what part of the country it comes from and what it has naturally filtered through. If your constipated try moving about go for a walk and try not to sit on the toilet for to long at a time but drink plenty. My stomach often feel hot to the touch, that’s a sign that a flare up is on its way. I hope this is of some help on your journey with the horrible IBS all the best Lewis long term sufferer
