Hi All,I hope your all doing as well as is possible.

I’ve been on this site for a few years now,but I don’t post very often,so I’m reaching out right now for any advice anyone can give me. A few weeks back I thought I had a chest infection, well I suffer Emphysema so I sent for my respiratory nurse to check me over,as my breathing was getting worse, and my anckles had swollen. When she came she thought it was more to do with my heart,as I’ve also had a heart attack some years ago. So not to bore you with the performance I had with my GP to get my heart nurse in. I finally seen her last Thursday . She said my weight had gone up,( bad sign) and she thought I had quite a bit of fluid. So she prescribed me Furosemide which I’ve had before with no problem.

But since taking them the pain I’m suffering in my stomach,is getting really unbearable,so after just four days I stopped taking them. Now my general stomach problem is the more I go to the toilet to empty my bowel the more severe the pain, but I usually go after eating 3 times a day as a rule. But since taking the furosemide I’ve been going 5-6times a day,and by 7-00pm I’m really struggling to cope with the pain. Once I go to bed and get to sleep,I’m fine, then I wake up with it all over again. I don’t know if the furosemide has anything to do with it,but I never took it yesterday or this morning, but there don’t seem to be any change. I don’t want to call my GP because he’s no help at all,111 will want to send me to hospital which I don’t want to go. So if anyone out there has any suggestions at all I would be grateful. Sorry it’s such a long post.

Hi Breathless1943, this is a bit of a long shot, but what I find now is if I have a few sips of cold milk, it can sometimes make me feel less like I need the loo. It seems to have a slight constipating effect on me. But just have about 3 or 4 small sips and see how you go. If it helps a bit try a few more sips after a short while. Of course that is assuming you drink milk. But maybe it would work with a milk alternative!

Will it stop your intestines just forever churning severely.

I don't know about that, I think I use a lot of mind over matter sometimes, but it doesn't necessarily work. That having been said I do find the milk does kind of dry things out a bit. It's very good for neutralising stomach acid too.

Thank you for that,I’ll let you know tomorrow if it’s worked.

How are you today? Did the milk help at all?

Just a thought......diurectics will not only remove cellular fluids...they also remove electrolytes like magnesium and potassium. These two minerals help relax smooth muscle.Cramping gas bloating are caused by incomplete digestion possibly due to overuse of antibiotics....will increase activity in the intestines ...hence the extra visits to the loo.To address the pain caused by cramps and gas try taking magnesium glycinate ...this will ease the cramping you are experiencing without causing further issues to bowel movements. Not only will this reduce cramping...magnesium also corrects the fluid issue by releasing sodium from tissue....and restoring electrolyte exchange in your body.Krebs cycle and ATP.

Try to rebuild your gut flora with probiotics...green bananas do not get digested by the stomach but the fibre will feed the good bacteria below which restores gut health.....settle the colon with aloe vera with digestive enzymes (optima-amazon)...also consider slippery elm bark...this settles any upset from top to bottom in relation to pain and cramping.

Once you restore the micro-biome of your gut...these things stop being an issue....much more preferable than using diurectics.

If you are experiencing loose stools etc...you may find a day or two on just boiled rice helpful...this removes unwanted toxins and reduces BM.

Thank you for your reply, you hit on a few things there that make sense, and I will discuss some with my nurse on Friday. I haven’t ate bananas for some time,so I’ve had one yesterday and today and I feel much better. But a nutritionist told me to try Optimal once and I did. I found they were very expensive and done nothing for me. My stomach problems could have been definitely caused by Antibiotics, because I have a few health problems that have needed them in the past. But I try to stay clear now.

You need the one with digestive enzymes....this gives the stomach a helping hand...aloe vera on its own only sooths inflamed mucosa.Getting yourself out of SIBO is the way forward...eating leafy greens encourages the hcl proton pumps to rebuild normal levels...thus reduce intestional overgrowth.

Green bananas are not digested by the stomach so move into the lower bowel...this is good because probiotics need fibre down there to flourish and begin to combat the bad bacteria.best wishes.
