Do these things work for anyone?

I've had colon issues over the last decade with two major incidents. In each case I was given Xifaxin (sp), costs a fortune for me but..., and with concurrent diet watching with low fodmap, I got totally better quickly. I am now going through a terrible period post antibiotics (IV and oral) in February for a weird idiopathic bacterial infection in my parotid gland and neck tissue. Within one day I was admitted to hospital.

The antibiotics (amoxycillin and clindamycin) saved my life I'm sure (though now I'm allergic to clindamycin (sp?) but three weeks later I got severe abdominal pain and started on a now 2 1/2 month journey of what I believe is IBS-D (the GI doctor I've seen and who has done a ton of tests doesn't give it a name).

Has anyone out there had such a reaction to antibiotics? To these in particular? If so, how did you regain your gut health? I'm changing GI doctors. The current one didn't want to give me Xifaxin because of my antibiotic reaction, but since its so benign seemingly, I'm wondering if it figured in your recovery?

I'm afraid like so many of you to go anywhere. One time I was in the airport and had to come back home and miss a trip with my partner.

Another question that I have is whether anyone experiences the bouts of diarrhea more in the morning? It seems that I'll have rounds of diarrhea mostly (like 90% of the time) in the morning. Then I guess I'm "cleaned out" though in pain and fatigued, and often the next day I don't go to the bathroom at all, and then the situation repeats.

If you are not comfortable with your gastroenterologist, then change. Also ask about SIBO, which is small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. I have had this and it is diagnosed by a breath test and treated with Rifaxamin. Also, make sure you are tested for C. difficile. I would add that clindamycin is one of the more difficult antibiotics to take, in terms of the aftereffects that it can cause. I was told this by both my doctor and dentist.
