Hi I'm the same at the moment have u spoken with ur GP to have any bloods or stool sample taken. I am just having loads of different test to see if there is anything else wrong apart from my ibs d as I have been like this for months now. Have u looked at the fodmap diet worth googling to see what u need to eat and carnt eat on it hope you feel better soon
Hi, I'm also the same at the moment. I'mhaving ongoing tests as I've been having problems for months now. I've cut out alcohol and sugar but this has made no difference. I've feel I have tried everything. I hope you feel better soon.
Hi,
I guess you have tried taking probiotics.
I found a product called Silicolgel. If you haven't already this, you may want to research this item.
Hope you feel better soon
Ys I've tried probiotics but not silicolgel will have to look for it when I'm up to going shopping
I've had an irritable colon it seems for the last decade or so--had two prolonged incidents. What seemed to get me regular (I'm assuming it was the major cause, though I did eat a bland diet for a while, and the second time I took Align probiotic and Konsyl prebiotic as well) was the very expensive antibiotic that is specific to the gut, Xifaxan. I've been reading about it and some quite remarkable success stories. It is a two week course and can be repeated up to two times (I assume that is more or less consecutive or within a year as I read that it is sometimes used "long term." The bad news--I'm in the US--is that though they offer a discount coupon that radically reduces the price, if one is on Medicare (I'm 72), one is ineligible. Go figure. And my Medicare supplement insurance only paid 1/2 and the cost was $800. This is the lousy American healthcare system.
Anyway, I had this February a sudden and idiopathic bacterial infection in my parotid gland and neck tissue. I ended up in hospital and with massive antibiotics. The inevitable happened though I had been taking Align. Three weeks later severe abdominal pain and diarrhea, nausea etc. I've had a GI doctor I'm about to replace with another recommended to me. He's done many tests including a colonoscopy. I've been trying diet, exercise, l-glutamine, pro and pre-biotics (ssee above), Gas-X, Imodium as I need it, dycyclamine for abdominal spasms on demand, and I'm on Lexapro for anxiety, which I assume is good for IBS. There are days that SEEM better stool-wise, but then I lapse back and have a terrible day or two where I don't eat much and suffer and am terribly fatigued.
So the antibiotics saved my life quite literally, but now I'm in this chronic state. On one occasion of late we were to fly somewhere. I got to the airport (It was the AM, my worst IBS time) and had to come back home! So like all with IBS D, I'm anxious about bathrooms all the time.
Good luck Chelsea. If I get any relief from the new doctor I'll try and write you. In the meantime, why not talk with your doctor about Xifaxan (rifaximin)? It truly did help me twice.
