Over active Gastrocolic Reflex

Hi. I have joined in the hope of helping my 19 year old son.

A few years ago he was diagnosed with condition called Orofacial Granulomatosis which can but not always be linked with Crohn's Disease. Doctor's carried out calprotin tests and said everything was fine.

A year or so after that he developed bowel issues which are getting worse. He isn't due to see Specialist at hospital till July so I am hoping to get some advice . I am still leaning towards IBS.

His biggest problem is an over active Gastrocolic Reflex which means many days he has to go the toilet after he eats which makes him anxious if not at home. When I read about IBS it tends to be put in two categories -diarrhea or constipation but he is neither.

On my quest for answers I have read about various treatments such as Colpermin.

He has started taking kefir since last week too.

Any avice would be much appreciated

Have they ever mentioned his liver or gallbladder? I know of many people with that issue and it’s typically gallbladder related. Maybe check out his ejection fraction rate via HIDA scan if you haven’t already. I had this issue but it’s much better after I implemented more beans into my diet and looked into histamine intolerance. The beans (soluble fiber) help carry out the bile into your bowel movement so you’re not recycling old bile and helping your liver/gallbladder regenerate. Wishing you all the best. Hate hearing how young your sweet boy is.
