Pm’d You my darling xxxxx

What do you usually do when you have a flare up?

in reply to

Hi Jim, when I’m in flare up if I can I usually have a cup of ginger tea or eat crystallised ginger, failing that I drink peppermint tea and take buscopan

in reply to

I use ginger tea too, try a banana, they work for me and a red apple sometimes helps too.

in reply to

I find ginger very comforting when my stomach aches and I love bananas too, also put a water hot bottle or a hot compress on my lower abdomen too, that is soothing also

in reply to

Yes, there are a lot of things that can help, it just takes a while to find what suits us.

in reply to

One of my friends said to me ages ago to try Cbd oil but never have

in reply to

I tried it for my arthritis and it didn't do anything for it or my ibs.

in reply to

That’s a no no then lol, my doctor recently put me on mebeverine and that tends to work to an extent but does not tend to work of a night when you want to go to sleep

in reply to

Maybe the stuff I used wasn't strong enough.

Mine is mostly under control now, probiotics and exercise help a lot.

I'm so sorry to hear you are so down I've been where you are many times. I've had IBS for 40 years and it can destroy your life if you let it. Flare ups do calm down and you can get periods of remission when you feel normal. Stress as you know makes things worse and stressing about flare ups causes a vicious circle. The more you stress the worse it gets and the worse it gets the worse the stress. Diet really is key. You simply cannot eat things you are not allowed on the low Fodmap diet. Having said that, I can't eat many things on the diet. I was told by a dietician a couple of years ago not to eat fruit or tomatoes. Porridge is a killer.

Look for intolerances. The main ones are dairy/lactose, yeast, soya and wheat. But, there are other hidden intolerance. I'm intolerant to dextrose and sunflower oil as well as the main ones. IBS is an evil condition that is not understood by most doctors. Oh, one thing to mention, some medications (proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole) can make IBS worse even those that are supposed to ease it can cause problems.

You're not alone. You have my support. Cry if you want to, let out the anger and despair, it does you good to show your emotions.

If you need any help or advice just let me know.

So sorry to hear that. I feel for you. Remember, she is still with you. She's still there, she's just on a different plane and you can't see her but she's with you and you can still talk to her. My love to you sweetheart.

I think it’s a combination. Lockdown and Winter weather, gloomy and short days. We know that feeling stressed or miserable doesn’t help symptoms so it’s just a vicious circle. It’s not great but better times are coming. Spring, lighter warmer days and the jab after which hopefully we can meet family and friends etc. Hang in there and find your way through this both dietary and mentally. For me it’s walking, actimel, dried apricots for breakfast and keeping a food diary. I’ve given up beef following a hair strand test and peppers ginger etc. Any fruit or veg that is too fibrous. My main problem is diverticula which have become quite pronounced. Following an infection IBS has been added to the mix!

I also take Citalopram 20mg ( reduced from 40mg) which helps the stress. Your regime will be different of course but a couple of things to try if you wish

Rabbiting on really but to say you’re not alone and we dodgy gut family really are all in this together 🤗
