Need to know I'm not alone

I wake up every morning sick to my stomach. It is awful. Dont know what to do. Before retirement the last 6 months of working was hell miss a lot of work. I have IBSD. Almost home bound and I hate it. I dont want to have a accident away from home. Anyone else have this problem? I had a bad infection and was infused with strong antibiotics everyday for 2 month. The problems really started after that. That was 3 yrs ago. People just dont understand. I have to ware adult diapers and it is so embarrassing. But I never leave home with out them.

Well, you could try some probiotics to increase the good guys in your gut, because the antibiotics you took destroy the good guys along with the bad guys. Also, as a temporary measure, while waiting for the probiotics to work, try taking Imodium, to settle the diarrhoea.

Hi, I am so sorry you're going through this. It really does make every day difficult. Have you tried a 12 week course of the probiotic Symprove? Apparently it's the only one backed up by science. Also, the low fodmap diet stopped my ibs, so might be worth asking the gp for a referral to a dietitian? In the meantime, theres an app called monash university low fodmap, that shows you the safe foods and problem foods.

If all that fails, you might want to look at BAM or bile salt malabsorption. In my experience, IBS is a symptom of something else..

I really hope you feel better soon x

I really feel for you, antibiotics wipe out everything that is good in your gut. Try taking a daily probiotic like Lactobacillus Rhamnosus; Inessa do a delayed release version so it gets to the right place before doing its stuff. Fermented foods are good at getting good bacteria into your gut, have light meals which are low in fat (fish & chicken) stay away from spicy, sweet and junk foods, avoid alcohol, drink loads of water. Replace wheat with oat products. Reduce your stress and get plenty of sleep, take some peaceful exercise if you can. You may also find that a SSRI (eg - citalopram) from your doctor is helpful, it will reduce your anxiety which will in turn calm your gut.

Ask for a referral to a low fodmap trained dietitian via your GP - the low fodmap diet cured my IBS-D. Alflorex probiotic has been scientifically studied for IBS and is helping me. It's available on a free 2 month trial on joining theibsnetwork.org.
