Problems due to stress and Anxiety

I think as I suffer from stress and anxiety and isolation this gives rise to IBS

I struggle to pass Post Graduate Legal Exams and finding a years work experience to requalify

I have a very damanding elderly Mother and if I give up will end up being a carer to someone who always puts herself first

There are times when you have to put yourself first. I know it sounds harsh, especially when referring to a parent, but, in all honesty, your mother should want you to better yourself, and therefore you should. Good luck.

Dear Freedman

I would like to thank you for having the time and consideration to reply

As I said it has been two years since my Fathers passing and I was his carer and Attorney

I am now fifty years old trying to restart at this late stage and as I have mentioned my Mother expects me to listen and support her

I think my anxiety can only cope with so much this is what gives rise to my IBS

I agree with what you have said it is not harsh advice

I hope you find calm and peace through your own medication

I have a somewhat similar situation with my mother and definitely see an increase in symptoms when I’m stressed with her. I know it’s easy to say and harder to do but you must have some time to put yourself first, even if for no other reason than you will then find it easier to give. You have a right to a good life too and to have a fulfilling career so don’t give up. You also have the right to say no, I know it’s hard but gets easier with practice.

Dear Capri 20

Thank you for reply

I hope you are keeping well

The anxiety I have is brought on by the job search, being very isolated and trying to requalify at the age of 50

Constant rejection makes me feels like an outsider looking in

What I have learnt is to keep trying because the right people and right job will find you in the end

I realise what you have said is very true when dealing with an overpowering Mother

She is all that I have

I wish you good health

That must be very hard but if you don’t give up you will get there, then hopefully that will have a positive effect on your anxiety. Your mum’s lucky to have you too!

Wishing you good luck and good health.

Dear Capri

You have said very kind and uplifting words

I try so hard but I expect I question why at age fifty should I keep trying

I will not give up

I hope you are keeping well and how is your IBS

Trying to know what triggers our stress levels is the key to resolving our IBS

Thank you

Dear Capri

I read some of your messages

Having suffered from IBS since 2006 I would suggest you ask your Gp for Meberine it really helps to reduce the atrocious pain brought on by IBS

Also herbal tea such as Peppermint tea

and any kind of herbal

Tea gives me quick relief

The diet with added fruit and vegetables also helps

Keeping our mind balanced and being kind to ourselves also important

I hope this helps

Hi Roukaya,

Thanks for your message. I've only been dealing with this since December but it hit me out of nowhere. After some very frightening weeks waiting for tests and not being able to sleep for weeks and being afraid to eat, I decided to just start the low fodmap diet, which has actually helped a lot and I'm having a lot less pain. I've been prescribed Omeprozole for nausea and indigestion which is helping. Although I'm definitely not back to 'normal' I'm feeling a lot better than I was. I also find peppermint tea as you suggested above helps a lot to calm my stomach and also jasmine tea.

I haven't had an official diagnosis from my doctor, just that it's 'probably ibs' and I was strongly advised to relax and meditate. I'm 46 so surprised that this has suddenly happened at this point in my life. My mother was seriously ill two years ago and has since needed a lot of care and also has bipolar disorder, plus I'm a single mum to a teenage daughter who also suffers from anxiety. It's been a bit of a wake up call that I've been looking after everyone else and not myself. Still it's difficult to take time for yourself if you're not used to it.

Thanks again for your kind messages. Hoping things will improve for you soon. We have to believe we have lots of time left ahead of us to be healthy and enjoy life.

Dear Capri

Thanks for message

I think it is a combination of diet and management of stress which will help

At the age of fifty I am trying to restart again

I am unmarried no children and very much isolated

I have a Mother who lives overseas who I realise puts herself first and this is perhaps why as she is 72 she will not change

I cared for my Father for six years and he died two years ago

Since then I have struggled with confidence and self belief

I hope you keep well
