I had a really awful sickness and diarrhea virus 10 days ago, confirmed by my GP and am now suffering. I've got runny watery poop but only twice a day, so can't say it's diarrhea. It's still on the yellow side. Does it sound like an ibs d flair. I had it under control, kind of, but now it seems to have kicked it all off again. Feeling really down. Anyone else relate? Thanks xx

I had same condition last summer which just went on and on and on. I’ve always suffered with IBS D but I went to a pattern as you are of having yellow diarrhoea 2-3 times a day and feeling like I couldn’t hold onto any food. Lost a huge amount of weight and eventually saw a gastro who said my gut was so depleted of all natural digestive enzymes etc etc and he felt with a low fibre diet it should eventually slow food digestion down. I followed this diet and noticed immediate improvement which took roughly around 5 weeks to return to ‘normal for me’. Every time I had a blip of diarrhoea etc I just went back to the low fibre diet. Diet can be downloaded from NHS website.
Interestingly I asked about taking gut supplements etc and he said my choice but felt unnecessary and encourage my gut to work for itself so I did and relieved to say the advice worked so well for me.
Hi and thank you for your reply. I am going to try the low fibre diet. I had porridge and flapjack yesterday, gluten and lactose free so no wonder I was feeling awful. I have had a poached eggs on white toast for breakfast this morning and s banana. I do take acidophilus non dairy and have done for 3 years but I'm convinced the virus wiped out all my good work. I stick to gluten and dairy free and follow the low fodmap diet. But I'm definitely going to give the low fibre diet a go. Thanks for your help xx
If I am trying to control diarrhea I just eat jasmine white rice and protein plus I take a daily multi-vitamin and mineral supplement. White rice and meat (if you are not vegetarian) will be digested in the small intestine only and will give your large intestine a rest. With this regime, your diarrhea should stop in a day or two since effectively you're not putting anything in your colon for a bit whilst it sorts itself out.
