Hi everyone.
I am thinking of embarking on the Low fodmap diet in the new year to help with my IBS symptoms. Can i do it myself or do i really need a trained dietitian to help me?

Hi ChefBoy
It really should be with the aid of a fodmap trained dietitian. The studies show you are more likely to be succesful with it with dietitian support. Also the last two stages to reintroduce and personalise a persons diet are key to being able to eat in a varied and healthy way in the future.
There are some good materials online to read up on. Monash University did the original work on fodmap and they have some useful materials on the web, as well as a phone app to look up the food items once you get going.
Hope it goes well for you. I am one of the fodmap-changed-my-life people on this forum, and I have to say it is worth persevering with as 70% of IBS sufferers see a big improvement.
MONASH is the University who did deep research into IBS, which frequently overlaps into other gastrointestinal disorders.
MONASH have an app, which is my favorite of the FODMAP apps and the lists of high FODMAPS and low FODMAPS I trust the most.
Good luck and a healthy, joyous 2020
We recommend working with a dietitian.
