Good afternoon everyone , I am due to go away on a city break on Monday. I am trying to work out a regime to ensure I won't have any accidents whilst travelling . It's only for four days, but the whole stress of worrying about needing a toilet , maybe whilst in the queue going through security or at the gate has induced a feeling of such panic I feel I want to cancel the whole thing ! My husband is wonderful , and he deserves a break like normal people so for his sake I want to be able to do it.
My flight leaves at the unearthly hour of 6 am and have to be at the airport by 4 a m . I plan to eat lightly tomorrow ( Sunday) but was wondering as there is a short gap between bed and getting on the road again, should I take two immodium around midnight ? I don't plan on eating until I reach the hotel, other than maybe a banana or something similar .
I am worrying about coming home too as have to be on the coach for 6 AM Thursday so will have to do it in reverse.
IBS has controlled my life for decades, I am now 67 and still have the indignity of needing to know where toilets are and the dread of having accidents ! My social life is severely curtailed and I never go to concerts or anywhere where you would be queuing for toilets.
Thank you in advance . This forum and the whole board has been a life saver for me and I mean than most sincerely .

Well, until you try, you won't know, will you? You seem to have planned everything for the trip, but how long are you on the coach for on your return journey?
I am the Same as you I’ve just had a week in Crete. I take 2 Imodiums in the morning and don’t eat anything until I’ve arrived . Good luck
No you shouldn't cancel as that's the last thing you should do! The worst that can happen is you have an accident and accidents aren't the end of the world although they are upsetting at the time in public but it's unlikely you will ever see those people again and take extra supplies with you just in case there's problems and if it makes you feel more at ease then take the Imodium.
Best of luck for your trip! I always say how I want a so called normal life not some miserable old existence due to using a medical condition as a shield to hide behind not to do things out of fear!
Have your doctor prescribe one of these 3 meds....they all stop diarrhea in its ugly tracks! Welchol, Colestipol, and/or Questran. Wonder drugs....Welchol and Colestipol are used along with a statin to lower cholesterol (which I do not have...so they won't effect it that much), and Type II diabetes...BUT, they are also used for chronic diarrhea!!!! Most doctors don't even know this..I had to research it myself, then suggest to my doctor to prescribe Welchol. He was happy to do that and it worked miracles. Switch to Colestipol because WElchol is pretty expensive over here in the States...Colestipol work just as well!! Good luck!
(I take 3 tablets...twice a day...that's a good dose for me and I have my life back! I am 71 years old and suffered for years and years...)
Hi everyone and many thanks for all your support and advice. I had a great trip, no problem at all. I took one ammonium and one Codeine 30 mg as prescribed by my GP the evening before I left home . NO breakfast and another imodium . I travelled by car, flight and coach for over six hours and had no issues at all. Had a bowel movement on day two, which was fine, I was in the hotel. Took two more imodium on Wednsesday night and had the same journey in reverse, again no issues whatsoever. Just wanted to say it can be done. I was so worried but the Immoidum really gave me the confidence and I had a great break .
