My bowels are all over the place lately, Im having loose bowel movements every day and darent go out as i never know when I'm going to have diarrhea and scared ill have an 'accident' in public. I've read online that taking lopermide (immodium) daily can ease this but is this safe to do?

Yes I take a lot of that it just helps bind the diarrhoea into proper stools to pass. But you must find out what’s causing it. Could be something simple like something you’re eating or you may need tests. Go and speak to the doctor.

I use loperamide and it is a godsend. It seems to slow down motility and binds the stool. I wouldn’t worry about it being safe. Lots of people are taking it with no issues, but you can check with your doctor if you are concerned. You need to find out your particular level of need. I only take half a tablet about once a week when my motility increases and I get urgency which doesn’t resolve with a good bowel movement. Your diet affects your ibs, so find out what foods to avoid. Also stress is another trigger. I used to have loose bowel movements, but now it’s more like teaching my body to be regular and less spastic ( which means not having to run to a toilet, which can be a problem when one is out). Use panty liners on unpredictable days for reassurance. I also take 2 psyllium tablets every morning before eating anything. Good luck!

Have your doctor prescribe one of these: Welchol, Colestipol, Questran...all three of these will stop diarrhea in it's dirty little tracks. I take Colestipol and I now have my life back after decades of chronic diarrhea!

You can ask your pharmacist about daily Imodium. My GI doctor had me add daily fiber supplements. I'm having to experiment to find the right amount.

Yes do take imodium, I'm never without it. My doctor told me you can't get immune to it. I take it whenever I have to go out. Good luck.
