IBS flare up - need some TLC 😞

Really felt like I was getting on top of my IBS over the past few weeks-month, I’m due to fly to Greece on Tuesday with some friends and my IBS has decided to flare up badly over the last week. I can feel myself becoming really down about it, constantly bloated, feeling really sick, the trapped wind is horrific and giving me loud bowel noises, I’m having a really urgent need to go to the toilet but then feeling constipated when I get there and only passing small amounts but it’s pushed forward by gas so noisy and explosive (sorry TMI!) which is really embarrassing! Not really after advice just comfort that this will pass, and to know I’m not the only one going through this 😔

Ahhh Noodlepip 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 I'm so sorry your going through This .

Hopefully it's just subconscious nerve's about going away and soon it will pass. Maybe some milkmagneasia will help with the gurgling and also the constipation too. Evertime is best to take it three hours before bedtime. Also there is a very good tablet that prevents the spasm and gurgling it's called Colofac . I myself have been on it since last year and the difference is great. U so hope that you will feel comfortable soon and try eat some sweet vegetables . I wish you a wonderful breakaway and I hope you enjoy every minute of it. Keep strong and be well 🤗🤗🤗🤗😄

Hi Noodlepie

So sorry that the meds is not working.

I always suggested to my clients if they had a fair up in-between their return appointment to me. To use YouTube Jason Stephenson guided imagery relaxation and meditation or his Pain relief or one of his very many free video to help them to tie them over also another brilliant lot of video's is from meditation vacation or vice versa they use both names. All 3 are brilliant for helping with every form of anxiousness or anexiey or just even unsettled or over whelmed or stressed especially if they are having Pain because of it.

I hope this helps and that you have a great weekend

Sending you warm soft healing hugs with comfort and light 🙏😇👼 keep strong 🤗

Thank you so much for this, I will try the mediation practices! It’s comforting to know there are people who do care and understand, I think it’s hard as people closest to me don’t really understand what I’m going through, I feel like all I do is complain 🙈

Nope it's quite real . So real I even said one day to a friend who said explain to me what dose it feel like. So I said can I have your permission to give you the worse rib shot punch just using my 3 fingers into under your rib ? They said hell no , so I said then don't comment or try to judge if I'm really cought for breath because my pain is that sore 🤣😂🤣😂 point proven 🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊

I may have to try that, a lot of my pain comes under my left rib and for some reason I tend to bloat all around the left side, which makes me feel anxious something is wrong as I’ve never heard anyone having the same symptom just bloating in one area. Got a gastroenterologist appt at the beginning of June so looking forward and keeping track of all my symptoms until then!

Keepstrong profile image
Keepstrong in reply to NoodlePip

Do Dear friend because Noodlepie it will actually help in lots if ways.

And the left side is Where your food lays while digesting . This is why it's always said never lay on your left side going asleep as it will cause you heartburn . 🤗🤗🤗🤗😇

NoodlePip profile image
NoodlePip in reply to Keepstrong

Ah interesting I’ve not heard of this. I will not sleep on my left and see how much of a difference this makes as I also suffer with heartburn too!!

Keepstrong profile image
Keepstrong in reply to NoodlePip

Definitely try the massage techniques of starting on your right side up under the rib cage into the centre then over to the left rib cage and down to your grine because your actually massaging your Colan and that help rid any spasms or blocked upness that maybe there and the grine has a glance so that's where your massaging everything to. Your drainage gland. 🤗

That is the colon area on that side which may be inflamed. Buscopan might not suit you and might have a side effect of the runs - so it may help to look it up online.

Sorry to hear this, I know how.you feel, I was so ill when I went to venice a few weeks ago It was awful! Being gluten free in italy as well was hard work. I have recently started silicolgel, stocked by boots. Its amazing! Really helps so maybe give it a try. Enjoy Greece xxx

Thank you for the advice and sorry to hear you were poorly in Venice! I will look into getting some silicolgel 🙂

LISaprag profile image
LISaprag in reply to Aurora1990

What’s silcolgel good for what’s it do

Aurora1990 profile image
Aurora1990 in reply to LISaprag

Its a silicon based gel for gastrointestinal disorders including IBS, it basically coats the lining of your stomach and gets rid of any bad pathogens. You can take it short anf long term

LISaprag profile image

Is it for ibs c

Peppermint oil is good also for the bloat and gas. Funny how we all have times when things settle and you feel so good then out of the blue things turn bad again and it’s just a reminder that this is wgat ibs is all about. Good luck in Greece.

NoodlePip profile image
NoodlePip in reply to Cosm

Thank you I’ve been having peppermint and camomile teas which help but will look into getting some peppermint oil too! I know it’s so bizarre no rhyme or reason to it sometimes!!

I am reading this whilst waiting for a coach taking me on a hen weekend and guess what, I am bloated, constipated, belching for England etc. My IBS has been reasonable lately too. I am loathe to blame my state of mind as I didn’t think I was stressed at all about this weekend so maybe we don’t realise we are doing it. I will have to change my outfit too shortly as what I am wearing is now too uncomfortable! Maternity dress it is then. I wish I could give you some advise but all I can say is you aren’t on your own and I am sending you some virtual TLC (not KFC!!) Take care xx

Keepstrong profile image
Keepstrong in reply to Gonewiththewind44

Hi . I love your exactly what our problems are name 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 it's brilliant haha .

I so hope you had a good time at the hen's. Just try drink a glass of water after your meals and also massage your tummy a few minutes later by jentle rub up from your right side up to just under your rib don't break the contact with your tummy as you still in a clock wise motion while massaging go across the shape of your rib cage. Go up across the dip in-between your rib cage go to your left side of under your rib cage... Still not braking contact with your tummy and massage still clock wise circular motions right down your left side into your grine. Thus will help ease the bloating stop you from having constipation and prevent burping. Especially of you drink a glass of water after your meals. To help with Stress. Try using the YouTube suggestions I have our other friends here above. I really hope you have a fabulous time at the hen's party . Take care and be strong 🤗🙏😇

NoodlePip profile image
NoodlePip in reply to Gonewiththewind44

Oh no gonewiththewind that’s awful, I’m so sorry your ibs is bad. I feel as though I’m on this journey with you so fully understand how your feeling. I too thought that I didn’t feel anxious at all but excited and now it’s hit me, the fatigue side has been really bothersome too, hopefully I’ll have a lovely relaxful weekend and try to use my meds as well as herbal remedies and meditation to take control back!! I hope you feel better soon!!

That's awful! Been there myself. Think you might have a wheat intolerance with your name being noodle pip! I had tests and found wheat was one grain which had a bad effect on my system. Did you try any medication such as merbeverine, and fibre gel flavoured sachets as they may help. The fibre gel absorbs the water in the bowel and stops the runs, whilts the merberverine settles the colon down and won't make you drowsy. If you feel exhausted after a bout, then a co- codomol over the counter, can help as it takes the uneasy feeling away, and stops the runs. If you can get an appointment for the doctor with some medication it may make you feel better within days. If you can avoid bread cakes bisicuits, and barley malt products and cut out alcohol, it may help. If the problem is from stress, the medication will help as you are more anxious with having to dash to the loo every half an hour. If you are taking a drug for your problem then you can check it out for side effects on drugs.com or download a patient leaflet from the internet by typing in the name of your drug, and asking for patients leaflet. Hope you see your doctor soon - sure they will help.

NoodlePip in reply to

I am keen to get tested for intolerances as I do think many foods aggravate my IBS, I’ve taken fibre gel before but my dr switched me to laxido! Defo getting the fatigue and do have some co-codomol but that makes me feel really woozy! I’m going to attend a gastroenterologist appointment at the start of June so will ask about medications then - thanks for the advice!

in reply to NoodlePip

It's unfortunate you are having problems with certain prescriptions. You could try a complete change of diet, removing wheat, rye barley and maize try lactase free milk,

avoid egg Instead eat your fruit for carbs ie apple which is less acid than citric fruit,

melon, gentle on your stomach for breakfast. Instead of breakfast cereal, try the melon or an apple, for lunch try a little red meat, ham uncured smoke bacon, with potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes avoiding mayonnaise . I eat oat cakes with no other mixed flour but too many can set me off- they are addictive. I eat a bag of salt free crisps, a small slice of ham, and a tomato, and an apple for picnic - no problems. As soon as I start cereal, Alpen, cream, cottage cheese yoghurt, - am incapacitated. Merberverine only targets the bowel involuntary muscle which is not under your conscious control but Buscapan made me sick after one tablet. They are similar except buscopan may act as a general relaxant and make you woozy. Prochloperazine Stemetil can be an alternative to buscopan in a low dose without the Merbevine or Buscopan. I am ok with oats so I make a muesli with dried fruit, such as a small bit of dried apricot, or raisns and eat with lactase free milk which has no lactase ie milk sugar.

Merbentyl used for kids as well as adults may help for IBS relaxing the pain but you might have to find another pain killer to help you.

NoodlePip profile image
NoodlePip in reply to

Wow this is very detailed, thank you. I do use buscopan coupled with mebervine quite successfully normally, but when the flare ups are this severe nothing really helps except rest, peppermint tea and a hot water bottle but then I feel incapacitated from my daily life and activities. I will try beginning to adapt my diet, it’s quite a daunting step, but I feel something has to give and maybe it’s my diet I need to look at more closely! Thanks again for the advice.

in reply to NoodlePip

If you live in the Uk you can have these tests at Alphega (Alphega website map locator) linked chemists in your area. If you live in the London area then I can give you some chemists which do the allergy service which can be found on the website on icons numbers for your post code area. As there are 118 chemists in London with different services I can give you the ones that do the allergy testing as only a few do the allergy services. Hope you can try merbentyl with ultra Panadol as this might help when you have a painful attack. It is stress which can make it far worse.

NoodlePip profile image
NoodlePip in reply to

I am in the UK so will definitely look on the website, I’m sort of in between Oxford & Northampton so will see if any chemists nearby offer the service - thank you so much!!

Awww ... feel for you NoodlePip. It’s rubbish isn’t it ! You’re not alone , far from

It. Really great advice on this forum, think I’ve learnt more on here in a month than the three years of tests and consultants! If you haven’t taken SYMPROVE that might be worth a try , recommended by my NHS dietician. Chill and wish you fab time in Greece.

NoodlePip profile image
NoodlePip in reply to WorkerB

Thanks WorkerB, this forum is super great for advice!! What is SYMPROVE? I’ve not heard of it before

WorkerB profile image
WorkerB in reply to NoodlePip

It’s a probiotic, best to order direct from them on line or can phone them, really helpful with advice too. Not inexpensive but the dietician I saw said it was the only probiotic she would recommend that helped ibs. .ive found it really does If you’re going to order I’d say get the mango one not the original which tastes disgusting😂.

NoodlePip profile image
NoodlePip in reply to WorkerB

Oh super, I tried the acidophilus but it didn’t help, made me quite constipated actually! I will research into SYMPROVE, pleased you’ve had Good results with it!

Oh dear, so know how you feel, I'm going through settled period at mo but you can never fully relax. Seems like colofax might be a good idea. I take imodium whenever I've got to go somewhere. I shall take it today as meeting friends for late lunch. I hope you are able to have a great holiday and wish you well.

NoodlePip profile image
NoodlePip in reply to Marygulliford

Thank you, I’ve had a restful day today and things seem to have settled a little more, other than having horrible reflux! Although not going to get too comfortable, planning to continue to eat well and not get stressed and fingers crossed it’ll keep settling each day!

Aw NoodlePip

So sorry to hear you are feeling bad

I felt mush the same before I was away, just back and for the most part a beautiful holiday

I worked on my anxiety, because I know it has a knock on effect with my body

I do meditation morning and evening usually in bed( any place quiet sunbathing? Headphones) anything from just 10min to an hour. I take a homeopathic remedy called Ignatia (worth looking up) to help calm my mind on a daily basis. Also gentle breathing exercises during the day when I have an odd few minutes, even st traffic lights!

When the pain and bloating is bad I take Buscopan and Panodal Actifast makes me burp and fart for ages but really helps. They can be taken together

When I was packing

In each handbag I had a strip of

Buscopan, Panadol Actifast, Imodium, probiotic, ignatia and anything else I needed to have with me each day/night

I also always had snacks with me always that I know I can eat, so as not to eat the something that disagrees with me ( was in serious pain one day away from eating the wrong thing, don’t take chances)

Try focus on the good things to look forward to,

Hope you have a great holiday

And make happy memories xx

NoodlePip profile image
NoodlePip in reply to Ollie2

Wow thank you taking the time to write this detailed post!! Meditation during sunbathing is a wonderful idea, I need to focus on mindfulness more often now it’s flaring and that’s a great idea. I always have buscopan wherever I go, which ever bag or purse I have I always make sure there’s a strip of buscopan and rennie/gaviscon for the reflux! I’ve not taken panodal actifast before but I may look into it.

The bloating is still very much there, particularly around my left ribs/waist area, but the cramps seem to settling which is good, fingers crossed I carry on moving in the right direction 🤞🏼 thanks again for the fab advice!!

I am same as you at the minute my inside keep making a gurgling sewer kind of noise especially in my back end makes me feel nauseous at times. And currently constipated it's like playing tricks when you get that feel then you go toilet then the feeling goes away. I bought some colodex ibs 5 day treatment which I am gonna try see if that works

NoodlePip profile image
NoodlePip in reply to Cjc_woodworx

Oh I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems with your IBS, it’s so frustrating, we’re definitely all in the same boat and although it’s horrible to think more people are going though this, at least we’re doing it together! Thank you for the comment, I hope the colodex helps!

Coffee_cake profile image
Coffee_cake

I really know the feeling! I just have to drink lots and be really careful not eating anything i know causes a flare up. I know its easy to say but dont stress! Going on holiday can be more stressful and i know with IBS adds even more to that. Just look forward to the holiday and be kind to yourself x

Cosm profile image
Cosm

Another little tip that I have just discovers that works is I only eat now three times a day and not too much I’m finding my tummy doesn’t get overfilled and bloated. Still ha e to deal with the constipation on a daily basis but I can do that. Good luck!!

NoodlePip profile image

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to every single person who took the time to comment, Im back and had a wonderful holiday, my IBS was absolutely fine and I believe having a restful break really helped with my symptoms. It’s crazy how anxiety can take over and heighten the symptoms without even realising it’s happened, however being able to discuss here and have non-judgemental comments really means a lot to me, we are lucky to have such a supportive community on this group. So thank you all 🥰
