Being checked for IBS - advice on probiotics please

After some years of reflux (cheese a culprit) and often feeling bloated and gaseous, I have had a couple of weeks of some sharp pain - mostly upper left and occ upper right, abdomen just below ribs and dull ache in my back. No nausea or weight loss. My glands in my neck are a little tender in last few days.

Bowels are working as normal (if anything more frequent) and no sign of blood.

Saw Docs last week and they can’t feel anything worrying on examining my stomach area. They are doing bloods etc though to check.

I have had a lot of anxiety and stress lately and my diet too has been bad - with overeating too.

I’m making changes to my diet to see if that helps but is there any advice on which probiotics are good and which are a waste of money.

There are many probiotics. Supermarket probiotic drinks tend to contain a lot of sugar. You need to do a bit of online research, I think. Not everyone is convinced that probiotics are good, although they do seem to work for others. It may be down to trial and error as to which, if any, is the best for you. Took me two or three years to find the one for me. Certainly go for quality, avoid cheap options.

You could try kefir instead. It's a fermented drink which can help rebalance the good bacteria in your bowel. You can make your own really cheaply. My daughter has severe IBS and never had any improvement with probiotics but the kefir has really helped.
