Hi everyone.

Really struggling to get the moviprep down ready for tomorrow, done about 7/8 of the first litre but keep gagging and having to resort to drinking g the rest on the loo.

Any help greatly appreciated

Oh my goodness I know how difficult it is! The prep is the worst part by far though. Take it slow, the most important thing is to keep it down, but I know that’s not always a matter of choice. Slow sips, don’t be tempted to down it.

Hello, I have started downing 3-4 mouthfuls at a time and giving myself a 10 minute break and then carrying on again but this second litre is killing me!

You’re getting there, you can do it! It’s vile, I know and the after effects are not fun. But it’s worth it for reassurance/diagnosis or whatever comes from the procedure, what are you having done?

Going for a colonoscopy at 8am tomorrow. Is it a massive issue if I'm running clear but don't finish all the second litre? It's making me nauseous and I'd rather stay as i am being clear than start chucking it back up if I can.

And thank you for the replies, it's nice knowing there are other people in the same boat!

Definitely do not stop before you’ve finished all the liquid if at all possible. You can be running clear for quite a while without being completely empty and do not want to find out they’ve not been able to complete due to inadequate prep. However, you do need to weigh it up and take into account the risk of vomiting. How much do you have left?

AshC20 profile image
AshC20 in reply toHanneesweedie

I have about 600ml left, been just taking a deep breath and doing gulps but it's getting harder and gagging more each time

Hmm how about taking a longer break? I know that it’s mentally really tough as well because of the fear of being sick, but I’ve pushed myself to speed up in the past with bad results. I think the reason they want you to do it so quick is in order to finishing going to the toilet and be able to sleep, but tbh before the procedure you’ll probably struggle to sleep anyway so possibly better to delay the stuff and get it down before going to bed.

I had a colonoscopy fairly recently, although I had a different prep as when I had the moviprep for a flexi-sig I couldn’t tolerate it. It was just one litre for that procedure and made me sick, so I totally sympathise about how vile it is. But it sounds like you’re doing amazing!

Only have 350-400ml left so gunna stop now, had to stop myself from being sick via holding my nose 😂

Ah no not fun at all! Are you going to try and continue later on?

I'm not too sure, I'm still going to the loo every 15mins or so at the moment and my stomach is hurting me a fair bit, I think it's just the quantity more than anything. I haven't tipped it away so I'll see

Mm that much liquid when it’s causing you to feel unwell is a lot to deal with, I would recommend trying to get as much of the remaining stuff down as possible though . In my experience, they really reiterate that you need to have it all if you can 😐 that’s easy for me to say now when I’m not going through it though

I didn't finish the rest in the end but the doctor said I did a good job regardless 👍

Can totally empathise! It's pretty rotten. I've always found refrigerating the liquid and adding some orange cordial to it, really helps get it down. Good luck!

I had to have 2 Kitts and could only get through 1.5 litres as I was vomiting and diarrhea at the same time. But I did this for so long I went completely clear and when I went for procedure they said I did really well could not have been clearer. Not everyone can handle or needs to have full amount you can't go past clear liquid.

I know it is to late now but in the future you might ask your doc for a script for SuPrep it doses cost more with my insurance it was $80.00.The good thing is you take one dose which is like two ounces with 16 oz water or 7up or ginger ale it does not taste bad drink 16 oz more clear liquid will work within the hour and will really clean you out of course the more liquid of good tasting clear liquid will be better. In the morning you repeat a second dose clean anything left quickly easiest prep ever. I was concerned because my med center was almost 60 miles away but no problem. I did your prep once and could not keep it down. I have had like 6 Colonoscopies and moviprep was the worst ever. Good luck I know it sucks.

I'm in the UK so not sure if I can get this, also you kinda just get what the NHS sends you :) but thank you, may ask for an alternative if ever needed again

Yes, I asked for an alternative to the miralax, and huge jugs. Was precribed Sup Prep bowel kit. Just two small bottles 6oz. I didn't even need 2nd bottle.

I hope it went well for you!

If you use a straw, you can bypass many of your taste buds...that really helps. But, that's a little late for you...I'm sorry..I hated that prep so bad. Seems to me that "they" could find a kinder, gentler prep for people.

Sup Prep bowel kit. Easy. 2 small 6oz bottles. Comes with a cup..Fill with a little water..pleasant tasting. No side effects..it's excellent alternative. Only had to use one bottle. Usually insurance covers. Gastros will prescribe it, if you don't want those huge jugs and so much water..

Here in France we are offered an alternative: 'Colokit' - pills (a lot of them!), much better than the liquid gunk!

Yes, I refuse Miralax (also known as Moviprep, Clear lax, GoLytely, Movicol, Polythene Glycol..PEG) hate the huge jugs. Too much! I asked gastro for another prep option as Miralax - Moviprep has a FDA black box alert, as it is made from the same ingredient (PEG) that Antifreeze and household cleaners are made of. Sad that Doctors prescribe this like candy. I got prescribed "Sup prep bowel kit. Two small 6 oz bottles, comes with a small cup. Fill with a little water to "fill line" and you are done. Taste is not bad..lemon lime like. It's so easy. Had no side effects. Only had to use one bottle. Insurance will usually pay for it..

I'm going to be taking moviprep on Monday & dreading it. The consultant said to chill it, but the instructions specifically say not to. Who's right?? Many thanks.

I mixed mine and then chilled it, I found chugging 3-5 large mouthfuls and then quickly following with a couple mouthfuls of orange squash worked best
