IBS? Sticky, err...

Sticky stools, I couldn't put it all in the heading. :) No problem with going, just wiping. :) No usual GI upsets. I try to avoid legumes, but other than that I'm not necessarily avoiding anything. (And it might be time to try legumes again.)

Long time issue. About a decade ago I had triple therapy to eradicate h. Pylori and that helped with other GI issues. Coeliac serology negative about two years ago, but a relative has just discovered she has it and our family is littered with autoimmune diseases (including me with Hashimotos).

Any thoughts on where to start to look for information/solutions?

Cheers!

H. Pylori is famous about suppressing stomach acid.

And you need that for proper digestion.

There is an easy way to test it.

Thanks Kentaro

Interesting. I also see that low stomach acid can allow H. Pylori to develop. I'm a little unsure about doing that test as I need to take my morning thyroid meds on an empty stomach, but I'll work out a day where I can make it all work and do it. On the other hand, is the solution something like ACV? If so, I can just try that myself.

Things seem to improve when I eat a LCHF diet, and I need to lose weight, so that's something I'd intended to go back to.

I have no H. Pylori symptoms. I know it can recur so I have always kept it in the back of my mind.

The issue isn't there at all times, but it is rare for me to have normal BMs. :( I have normal ones occasionally, so I know what they are. :) It is only recently when I've discovered that this sort of issue might be something more serious (and not just an inconvenience), so I'm taking it a bit more seriously.

I don't think baking soda would cause any problems. Just wait at least half an hour after you took your thyroid meds before you do the test.

Yes, the solution is like ACV but you can find stronger supplements.

You have to be careful with those. It can change the absorption of your meds.

I don't really know the LCHF diet but I think your symptoms improved as you eat less gluten. Gluten is very sticky!

Try to eat more fiber. It may help your stool to pass more easily and to manage your weight.

If you are worried about H. Pylori then you could try the Manuka honey and Mastika. (Although they didn't help me.)

Do you have issues with your immune system?

in reply toKentaro

Immune system - I have an autoimmune disease, so I guess I have to say yes. :)

I'll investigate the ACV and absorption issues - I'll call the pharmacy about interactions.

LCHF - it could have been what was eliminated as it is virtually a gluten-free diet simply because of the carb reduction, but it could also have been the addition of fat to my diet. Adding the odd bit of bread here and there - as long as I was eating good fat - didn't seem to make it worse again. Of course, it might have been just not enough gluten to trigger a problem, especially if everything had had time to heal up a bit.

Stool passes easily, and I am never constipated. The only time in my life I have ever been constipated was 20 years ago before I was treated for my hypothyroidism and it has never recurred. Fibre intake is pretty good. Interestingly, there has been research on constipation that showed improvement on *less* fibre, so it may be less of an issue than we're told, though as I said I'm never constipated. Still, I like fruit and veg (and live in a place where we're told to eat 2 fruit and 5 veg - so two more serves a day compared to UK recommendations), so that's usually okay. But, fibre intake does go up a bit when I'm LCHF, because if you're cutting out the bulk of the carbs, you have to add in more veg almost by default (if we have spag bol, instead of having it with a cup of pasta, I have it with a cup of cooked zucchini etc), so I'll keep track of it for a few days and see.

Today is back to LCHF and see what happens.

Interesting. I have issues with my immune system, thyroid and digestion too.

There could be a connection.

Stomach acid replacement is pretty unknown in UK. My GP didn't have a clue when I tried to explain it to her.

You could try the Keto diet if high fat diets work for you. I have never tried it as fat makes me sick but maybe it would be good for you.

Good idea to have a food diary and see how food changes your symptoms.

Hi, I have the very same problem! Never feel clean so always with baby wipes. I too have had H Pylori, twice, but last test came back clear. Went for a colonoscopy and only showed a prolapse.

As always I am just told that symptoms are "only" IBS! I was fine up until about 5 years ago then I had severe food poisoning abroad and I have never been the same.

Sorry I have no answer for you! Just to say your not alone.

All the best x

Are you sure it was food poisoning?

It could be a bug or bacteria that still makes you sick.

Maxsmudge profile image
Maxsmudge in reply toKentaro

It was more diarrhoea than sickness and took months for doctor to do bloods then poo samples, that was when I found out about H Pylori.

I am sure was food poisoning though as couldn't leave room for 2 days and was just making it to loo! Symptoms calmed down but I've never been the same since and I honestly don't know when I last had a normal poo!

Given up on Doctors as I can't handle them say "only IBS" its soul destroying.

In my experience you have to do your own investigation as doctors give up too easily.

So you never had problems before that trip? Maybe you were not aware of it.

Just out of curiosity what food did cause you the food poisoning?

Have you tried any diets?

in reply toMaxsmudge

I try not to do baby wipes because of the pollution issue, but I agree, it makes a huge difference! I'm thinking a colonoscopy is the next stage, but not yet. :)

Hey

The triple therapy for h pylori is a killer, it kills the bacteria but it also kills every bit of good bacteria in our body that we need to actually digest and eat and live.

I was told to up my immune and digestive system straight after as it could lead to ibs symptoms.

It gives u a candida overload.

So that sticky poo is that.

It is horrid.

So what u have to do...

This is my gastro diet for bringing ur gut and immune back up to fighting fit and it was amazing for me i have had no ibs symptoms since.

So u have to starve the bad bacteria... ie no sugar,no fructose( sugary fruit) , no mushrooms as it is a funghi, no processes food and no yeast products ie breads pastries! I went totally gluten free and have stayed it.

No alcohol.

Then u have to put the good gut bacteria in and build ur immune aswell.

So u need to take a high potency probiotic(3 times a day nowhere near any hot food or drink it kills it).

Digestive enzyme( 3 times a day before food)

Peppermint oil capsules

And a high vitamin c tablet.

And u do that for about 6 weeks... i noticed difference in my body in about 5 days and by 6 weeks it had gone.

U will see it all coming out in ur poo it disusting.

It works!

Unfortunately antibiotics and any painkillers or tablets effect our stomach lining and gut bacteria and gp dont tell u this when they give u these triple treatment or any antibiotics.

I received a thanku message from a man from india and a lady last week that had done what ive just told u and they say same as me it changed there life.

I have had ibs since i was 5 and i not had it for last 18 months at all.

I only learnt all this from a very good naturopath and very open minded gastro doctor.

Sorry been to germany for work just got back.

Yes i will eat a bowl fruit in morning or a bowl gluten free porridge /oats with cinnamon on it.

Then lunch i used to have a avacado salad with halloumi or some gluten free tortillas and hummous or a vegetable soup that id make myself and freeze. Gluten free cous cous and corguettes with bit of curry powder( tiny bit) or cayennes pepper or even some gluten free crispbreads and dunk it in peanut butter or hummous.

Then evening is always meat ( white) with loadsa veg.

If i want a snack il have a nakd bar usually the choc orange or choc one to get that choc craving away. I dont by any means starve ....

Somedays if i felt i couldnt b bothered id have some chips with chicken. That my fav takeaway meal a nandos... low cal and no gluten and no sugar.

It just about keeping it clean and simple... ur stomach needs to heal... plus i got to say i didnt realise till i done this diet how bad my ibs was it wasnt till i didnt have a stomach ache i realised id had one prob over 20 years... i lived on pepto bismol and renees and now i never have upset stomach or bellyache and dont have to take anything

damiante in reply toLulububs

ty for your reply, i think my problem is not ibs but h-pylori, i read that h-pylori has the same symptoms of ibs, still nothing changed after the antibiotics, now i feel worse than before, i bought so many different products from the health food store related to h-pylori i don't see any improvement, i don't know what to eat anymore, very painful when i go to the bathroom, anyway ty i appreciate you taking time to answer me, if you have any other suggestion please let me know.

damiante in reply toLulububs

i am taking probiotics, digestive enzymes, vitamin c, and i am eating chicken breast with green veggies, oatmeal in the morning, avocados, and i still have lots abdomen pain sometimes on one side sometimes on the other, cramps, diarrhea which i can see pieces of veggies, mucus, also feel tired, sleeping more, and sometimes very cold, and run to the bathroom so many times, if you can help me, please..ty

Lulububs profile image
Lulububs in reply todamiante

Ur doin everything right food wise it just gona take about 6-8 weeks to clear up as u have taken alot of antibiotics it literally kills ur gut.

U have to restore it all again and regrow the bateria and also stop the bad from regrowing.

I also used this tablet which is one made to kill bad bacteria it is called “ DIDA”u get it from holland and barratt.

Also peppermint oil cap. I change my probiotics every so often as u can get used to them.

Honestly it wont get better within like a week u need to give it time. It will get better but u have had alot more antibiotics then i did i dread to think what ur stomach is like.

Ur symtoms were same as

Mine severe abdominal pain, constantly pooing and running

To toilet( one day i went 17 times) i was so underweight as i couldnt keep anything in.

I couldnt stop sleeping and i had no energy. I just looked awful.

damiante profile image
damiante in reply toLulububs

same as me then Lulu, ty so so much for replying to me, i feel a little better, ty again and i will look into (DIDA) i am hoping i will feel better, just that u reply i feel better...take care

Lulububs profile image
Lulububs in reply todamiante

Also just a tip( incase u dont know this as i did not until

Naturopath told me)

The probiotics should b taken with cold water in a slot where your not goin to consume anything hot for at least half hour to 45 mins after or it kills the good bacteria of before it gets to gut and works.

Also i dont know if i asked u before do u have a probiotic with saccrobouvadi ( sorry cant spell) in it as that is a major one for candida and alot dont have that they use all the ones with “ l” words not the main one we need ...

It will work it just about being really strict with urself it not permanent but it is hard! Even when i was goin for drink with friends it like “ what do i drink”.

I never ate out coz i spent most time in toilet.

Now im normal!! Well as normal as can b🤪

So there is hope!!

Hi Lulu, again ty so much, saccharomyces boulardii i bought it as well 2 days ago i only took one pill so far, i almost give up taking more, but ty again for telling me. i will make sure i will take it with my probiotic, ty i so much appreciate you responding to me, i hope i will get better, i am so tired....

Hi Lulu, sorry to bother i was just wondering if you know anything about peptic ulcer, i had endoscopy done today and that was the result i was prescribed losec 2 times a day 20mg of course they also did a biopsy i have no results yet it takes about a week for the results, ty

Lulububs profile image
Lulububs in reply todamiante

Yeh a peptic ulcer is usually brought on by acidic or bad bacteria in stomach lining.

So u need to take the stuff the dr given u but at same time u need to build that good bacteria up ...good thing is we know what ur dealing with now.

I could not understand why the diet and supplements were working but now it explains it, u had got to bad to deal with it... it where the linings inflammed

Also a fluconzale low dose antifungal could help u just like 200 mg a day just to kill the bad bacteria and that may help u restore good but u dont wana take to many tablets or it may hurt ur lining again

Losec also known as omeprazole is a stomach lining aid it is very good my husband got serious salmonella of chicken from a famous takeaway he was so ill for month and he lost soooo much weight and even when he felt better he couldnt eat so they gave him this to help lining and within two days he was back to himself scoffing his face😂

damiante profile image
damiante in reply toLulububs

Hi Lulu, i am worried because i also have mucus and some blood not a lot but some, it could be more serious maybe cancer i will see once i get the results from the biopsy...ty again

Lulububs profile image
Lulububs in reply todamiante

I really dont think it is anything serious im more then sure u just have ulcer and bacteria build all brought on by h pylori. Its so rare for cancer and if it is u will know within a couple days!

I have to have blood tests 6 weekly due to the antibiotics not only giving me candida it gave me liver and kidney problems so i have to have regular checks they usually come back earlier then 24 hours coz there always bad, this month was first to come back late coz they have become normal so what im getting at is the longer u dont hear anything the better as if it was cancer u would know VERY QUICK.

Dont worry it wont make it any better for ur ulcer

Start taking the lining ulcer tablets

Keep taking the probiotics that important to keep thatgood bacteria goin in there... there work more now as ur ulcer also getting treated

Very informative!! Thank you very much, I am definitely going to try this as it is doable. X

Lulububs profile image
Lulububs in reply toMaxsmudge

Yes it is and it very effective ... i still have chosen to b gluten and dairy free just coz it made such a difference to my body and my ibs that i never want to go back to how i was.

If u just want to bump ur immune up and get rid of the leftover bad bacteria of the triple therapy just do it for 6-8 weeks ur still see a massive difference!

I was always on antibiotics for one reason or another now i wont touch them aless im literally dying as they just killed me ... now its just like i got a new stomach. I can eat without having TO GO within 5 mins and i dont get upset stomach all time and ive lost two stone. Me hair nails and skin look better it pretty amazing.

My whole family have had two bouts of flu this year and i didnt catch it once! I used to catch everything

I had very sticky, loose and mushy stools ( sorry!) for years and years, alongside awful gas and bloating, and it became urgent last year when I had two accidents in a row after eating certain foods- It was severe for 15 or so years and I never had a normal day with the toilet . what worked for me was cutting out my trigger foods(mostly wheat garlic onions and spicy type foods), taking probiotics, L glutamine, digestive enzymes and chia seeds which seem to bulk me up, . Generally I was also trying to heal myself and overhaul my life because I got hashimotos three years ago which I believe is all linked/triggered by my gut issues. I suspect my gut issues actually started around the time I was bulimic as a teenager then had a BV infection when pregnant because of a cheating partner( TMI again sorry), anyway hope something helps, I think the key is to remove the foods and heal the gut which I understand Glutamine is good for. Hope you improve soon.

I have this problem too, no idea what's causing it but I know it's a nightmare to clean, I won't go into the rest as it might be TMI lol.
